Do you think they are trying to change the game for WLS patients?  Hmmm, food for thought.

New Sensors Can Report Wellness Data to Your Doctor

by Bob Curley on September 23, 2010

Researchers at Michigan State University have developed sensors that you can wear on your body to report your level of physical activity to your doctor.

The sensors are designed to be worn on your lower leg, upper arm, and wrist, and gather information on the time, intensity, and frequency of your physical activity. The information is then transmitted wirelessly to your healthcare provider for analysis.

The system works by reporting on the angle and proximity of each body part, according to a report in the Sept. 21 issue of RFID Journal. The sensors were developed through a collaboration between Michigan State’s kinesiology and electrical engineering departments.

The sensors are currently being tested by researchers; if successful, they could find use in the sports medicine and weight-management fields, experts say.

This seems like a great tool especially if you had an injury and needed to get to the bottom of the problem while joints are in motion. Not sure of the correlation to WLS patients.....'splain please!!! lol

Similar technology has been used to monitor heart rate and bp for some time now.  I think this will be good for wls patients and non ops struggling with wl.

Now there is objective proof of you true activity level.  Doctors can no longer just assume you spend all your time sitting on your @$$ eating because you're fat.  You can no longer convince yourself that your  exercise routine and activity level are sufficient when in fact you are not breaking a sweat or have a fairly sedentary lifestyle.

If you're not loosing as expected this could answer some questions.  I wish they would come up with something to monitor metabolism.  It would save a lot of wls patients from major frustration.

I agree with MSW, I think it would be a great tool. I think it would prove that yes, I am working out, and no I'm still not losing!

And thank goodness Aetna doesn't care if you lose weight or not. I gained 12 lbs on my supervised "diet" lol

I see your point.  It can be used for evil.  Unfortunately, people are currently denied because the insurance co perceived they did not try hard enough.  Many people trying to exercise for the first time will barely register a blip on the monitor but for them its a real effort.
