I finished my second 10K race this morning!!!!!
First - I worked out yesterday morning - lower body weights, 2.5mile run in 28min. This is a no-no. The day before race day should be no workout - but the decision to run was last minute and after my morning workout.
Second - I woke up 30min late. So, I didn't hydrate and eat like I'd preferred to have. Also - I had chewing gum in my mouth while running. I typically chew gum while I workout in the gym - I really think (and this may sound retarded) that it ***** with my system during the run. I couldn't get my energy up for shyt until AFTER I spit it out. AND - I took water instead of powerade with me.
Third - this course had HILLS. The last one was flat - this mofo'in course was like San Fran!!! WTF??!!!!! I did run a full 2miles before taking my first walk interval - but G-damn....there is nothing like a frikkin series of hills to make you think 'why the **** am I here anyway??!!!'
So - I finished...... LAST. DEAD last. So last that there was a pickup truck gathering all the volunteers posted up along the way trailing behind me. I was passing mofos clapping for me and they'd get on the truck. BUT, in my defense, it was a small race and most of the other participants were SERIOUS mofo'in runners. Fukk em all - I finshed, so they can kiss my azz.
HOWEVER - there is one thing that is really, truly ****** with me. There was one chick running in the 'slow' pack with me and my homie - homegirl had on a BLACK T-SHIRT and a black SKIRT - yes - SKIRT. And under the skirt..... yoga pants!!!! WTF???? THAT bytch finished ahead of me. I'm going to console myself by saying the 2.5mile run Friday morning did me in, but best believe my new goal is NOT to be dead ass last!!!!!
I have a 5K next weekend that I am running for speed - I did 38min this past week in the gym doing 5K, so I am shooting for 35min or under next week - and Imma follow ALL my 'rules' this time!!!!!

But your tall so that could be why you are able to run faster, longer strides and all.
You may be a born runner and never knew it. Jus****ch the knees.
I have been training for months tho - I started this in about April or May of this year - had to work myself into it by running in the gym - my balance was awful and I did a lot of core work to get to the point that I could run at all. As for the distance - ever since the Las Vegas run, I KNEW I had it in me, so it's been full on since.
And thanks to you - I DO pay attention to my knees. It made me buy new shoes because I noticed the pain and from reading your posts, I knew it wasn't something for me to just 'work through' - the new shoes and me adjusting my running posture really helped. I also have become a LOT more faithful about taking my calcium........ LOL

It depends on the person, but I use to run with runners and beginning runners like I was and it took close to 6-7 months to get up to a 10K. But some people are natural runners, especially tall people and progressed faster.
It boils down to, lung capacity, build, stride, age, a ton of stuff. I had to work through lung capacity(asthma) and aged knees which made my running curve slow and very painful as you may recall.
I really miss running, and I still have to go down stairs sideway because of all the damage I did to my knees.
Pay attention to your shoes, I don't know if you realize this but when you start running a lot especially races outside your shoes have a short life and you have to change them every certain number of miles depending on how they wear.
Keep running, damit run for me cause my running days are over. :(
not sure about the born runner part - must be one of those slow births.... the 24-36hr in labor kind.... LOL - but I will take it!!!
