as i look at the before and after pictures online i can't get over how people are losing weight so fast and i'm just losing at a very slow rate. i know as a african american i have more muscle mass but come on. my dr.says i'm right on track but it's pretty hard to look at someone  who lost 91 lbs in 6 months and i only lost 60lbs. Is it my diet or what ?

STOP IT.......Cut it out right now!!!!!!!!

You are not helping yourself by comparing the rate that you lose weight against that of anothers.  Are you following your doctor's post-op orders?  Are you taking your vitamins? Are you exercising? What are you eating? What kind of surgery did you have? When did you have surgery? What was your weight before surgery? Were you always big or did you gain weight later in life?  Did you have other health issues (high blood pressure, diabetes) before WLS?

Maybe you are not losing as much weight as you could because of your diet but you have not provided enough information for anyone to really to give you an informed answer.  But comparing yourself to everybody else is not the way to figure out whether or not you are on the right track. As Lee said it will only drive you crazy and possibly drive you back to the eating habits that got you overweight in the first place.

Thank you for your reply just kim,
I had the realize band in march of 2010.  Some complications with it since such as a defective port  had to have a 2nd surgery to fix that. Now i think it's on the right track. I had a fill of 7ccs but that was too tight  food kept backing up on me so they took 1cc out now i feel no restrictions at all. I exercise at least 3 times a week walking 3 miles in 45 min. i was not always heavy i was very athletic growing up i didn't get heavy until about 7 years ago just got plain lazy. my diet consist of a 1/2 cup of food 3 times a day with 2 snacks  in between mostly high protien and  at least 64 oz of water a day (plus crystal light).
I'm trying to stay focused and tell myself i ca do this. All help is much appreciated
Thanks again

Katra8,

I am just going to be blunt and dont take this the wrong way but

SHUT UP!!!!!

When was the last time YOU lost 60lbs in 6 months?

This journey is an individual one and should not be compared to others.

Let me repeat that so you can get it...

This journey is an individual one and should not be compared to others.

You may have lost 60lbs and may be in a smaller cloths size than the person who may have lost 91.  My point is, EVERYONE is different in the way they lose and look.  There is NO ONE like you so how can you compare someone to YOU!!

Stop it right now!!! Get the comparison thing out of your head right now.  If it takes you not looking at others before and after pics, do that.  BUT DO NOT start this wonderful journey out tainted by the comparison game.  Its no joke...Take it from someone who knows.

Now, I pray I didnt hurt your feelings but that just struck a nerve in me.

Praying your continued success on this LIFE LONG journey.

Grace & Peace

Post wls we tend to forget that loosing ten pounds a month IS fast wl.  Someone else will always be faster and others will always be slower.   You're on track and loosing a lot more than a non op can expect given most will average 1-2 lbs a week.

Watching others loose faster is frustrating for sure but someone will always best you in pretty much every area of life.  Job, money, house, car, looks...  Why is this wl endevor any different?

It took me 508 days to loose what a friend lost in six months.  If you examined how faithful we each are to plan, you'd flip the results but in reality not so.  I can envy her of focus on my journey.  Fast wl is not guaranteed but significant wl is virtually guaranteed.  You have achieved both.  How fast will be fast enough?

Damn Michelle, I did not realize you were such a slow looser.  Long term bandsters I know average 4-6 lbs loss a month.  The frustration would send me off the deep end.

I deliberately said virtually guaranteed because I've come accross at least two people who haven't been able to loose post op in spite of working out and following their plans.  I've had it tough but what you guys are going through is true frustration.
