American Idol season three winner Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized Monday in Charlotte, North Carolina for a “medication overdose," reports People magazine.

Barrino, 26, was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville at 8:55 p.m. according to reports. The singer’s representative confirmed to TMZ that she was rushed to the hospital. The incident occured the same day Barrino was forced to deny allegations that she had broken up a marriage.

According to People, the singer’s condition is not life-threatening.

Last week Paula Cook, a North Carolina woman, claimed in court papers that Barrino had an affair with her husband Antwaun Cook in Aug. 2009 which caused the couple’s divorce. Barrino’s manager, Brian Dickens, replied to those claims in a statement saying, “Fantasia is certain that she is not responsible for the deterioration of [their] marriage."

He added, “Fantasia will weather this storm with the dignity and grace that she has exemplified throughout a life in which she has repeatedly overcome obstacles and challenges."

Barrino won American Idol in 2004 and has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards. She is set to star in the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical The Color Purple, which was based off the book and film of the same name.

In 2005 she published a memoir titled "Life Is Not a Fairy Tale," where she revealed she is functionally illiterate and had been in an abusive relationship with the father of her daughter Zion Quari Barrino, whom she gave birth to at the age of 16. The book went on to become a New York Times bestseller.

Her third studio album “Back to Me" was released July 27.

This is SO sad...I hear she's been going with a married man, all the money that she has made I fnd it pitiful that she has to go with someone's husband, she should be able to find a good guy.

It is sad and it is the very same thing I said about Alicia Keys (I lover her music) she could have had anyone but she chose to "take" a married man...SMH!

Just pathetic, smdh. 

I believe he told her he was separated, and I also so believe it may be a setup!!! because in the state of NC the wife can sue, its all very strange..I watched the T.O. show the other nite, and his friend Kia was dating a man for 8 months and didnt know he was married until he told her, and of course he said they were separated..she was really hurt..When money is involved people will do anything to anybody.. it takes two..I dont blame it all on Fantasia, U also know how the media DO!!!
