I just looked at your pics-the locs are turning out great!  I just can't justify that kind of $ right now.

You can start your locks with two strand twist or interlocking the interlock will give you the lock look right a way and you can go to regular lock care right away' With the two strand or the interlock you can control the thickness.

I was reading about those methods a minute ago.  I'm thinking the interlock will have better staying power as I wait for the hair to loc.  I'm concerned twists might unravel too easily.

I may try having my hair twisted first sort of as a trial run.   If I like the kinky twists then I'll go for the locs.  Thanks.

I wanted locks for about 5 years, and after I had MAJOR breakage while proegant with my twins (hormones), I decided to go for it.
I was not emotionally ready for a "big chop", so since I had about 4-5 inches of permed ends, I had sisterlocks installed installed last June.  I gradually chopped off ends after every retightening, and now have none of my old (permed) ends left.

My initial cost for installation was approx $500 (and that was a discount). If they are  sisterlocks certified it may be more, but it depends on how long your hair is.  I pay $85-100 every 6-8 weeks (I have gone as long as 10 weeks).  And it takes her about 3 hours to retighten.

I wash about every week in the shower (now, no so frequent at first) but VERY LOW MAINTENENCE, VERY EASY TO STYLE,
BEST DECISION ABOUT MY HAIR I HAVE EVER MADE!

No more 4-5 hour salon visits every two weeks, you dont need all of the styling products (I mostly use WATER) and my hair can be DONE in less than 5 minutes in the morning..... Plus my hair is SO, SO, SO thick, I am loving it (hope it stays this way after my surgery next week)

I will try to PM you a picture if you are not set to private later on this evening (when I am home).

I'm only 4 months in the loc'ing game but I LOVE them... the hardest part for me was the first month because my hair is curly and it looked like little twisties or something... I'm so glad I decided to loc. I only regret that I didn't do it sooner. I did the big chop two/three years ago and wore it short for 2 years... once I started growing it out, it grew fast and even faster since I've been loc'ing. Try locrocker.com to get support and information. This site has been extremely helpful for me... that one, fobi, napturality.com, and of course youtube.... you will find everything you need to know about your natural hair type and how to care for it... styles, washing, how to start and maintain your natural hair... everything.... all the best... and happy locking!!! -sb
