I would never have pegged you as a cradle Catholic being from TX. It was the old women pushing aside the walkers and dancing in the ailse that got to me. Them and the folks literally rolling in the ailses.
I went to what I think was a Pentacostal Church after Mass. I got there late. No lie, I was there for six hours, lol.

explanation for the cradle Catholic - my granddaddy's from Louisana. My grandmother is the Texan - she converted for him....... thankfully so - who knows the untold hours i would have wasted away in Baptist services.... I much prefer the 'mircowave' Catholic session. Tip in late, only two kneels, three bows and cracker tasting - then you're done!!!!
Even at Lakewood now - there's a steady timing. Now, where I know I'm probably wrong is for checking the speaking schedule and ONLY going when Joel is preaching. Went when his brother stood in one time..... his brother studders...... service is long than a MOFO with every three words said TWICE......

@ 'mircowave' Catholic session
Lord, my face is swollen and it hurts to laugh so I'm laughing and crying together!
I'm stuck in the South for at least another year. Southern Catholics add 50% more time to that microwave vs Northeastern Catholics. Still, I'm done way quicker than the other churches here in BumFkcu. LOL!!!

We don't always get exactly what we want in life but God has always given me what I need. MSW, or can I call you Mrs Zero jeans, I love your perspective! You are correct about some Black Churches scaring the crap out of you, I remember long time ago, I went to church with a girl I went to college with, she was in a "saved Holiness Church" where people get sanctified or something like that, while we were praying she got up and started running around the Church screaming and It like to have scared me to death, I thought she was having some sort of seizure...and when the deacons finally caught up with her to calm her down...she told me after the sermon was over ...that she had the "holy ghost" in her and...I never set foot back in that Church again....I am not against those who are holy and very spiritual but there is a LOT ignorance and hypocrisy in this tooo...by the way she was so drunk the night before church and parting and she says she has to "get saved".....
This kind of stuff makes me sick with so called very religious folks....

That would be MsZero as I do not use Mrs. I never acknowledge whom I refer to as 'My Legal Entity' aka 'estranged DH' unless absolutely necessary. I am separated but mentally single, lol.
Girl! I hear you with that running around and carrying on! I'd like to believe that its sincere for the overwhelming majority of folks. They must really feel moved by the Holy Spirit in a way I do not understand. I am often moved by the Spirit. Just far more gentally.
I don't fault the Saturday night sinners getting saved on Sunday. I reason that we (yes, me included) need Church far more than those who are always well behaved. I do wish they would put aside the self righteous bull **** and remember we are all just sinners at heart. Some of us just try harder to do right than others.

This posting comes form someone who is totally fed up with "churh and Church people" My personal belief is the church today is just like any other big business ...there is nothing christian going on in most churches........so why would I look for a mate there?
I was raised catholic and later converted to protestant, so I can identify with both perspectives .
The bible saysa that "He who finds a wife, findeth a good thing" It does not tell "him" where to search , nor doe it tell us to search at all . So, I Guess I am saying that if you have relationship with God and not your pastor , and trust that he is faithful to do as he said, then your chances of being "found " are greatly improved. Our steps are ordered of him.
So , some one is going to ask if I am married or single ....I am married and I chose my husband, because I chose and was not found .....I went through a lot of mess waiting for God to make hime the man I need.......not everyone is so lucky
I do agree tha some women put too much stock in what the Pasor says and adopt thought processes that may keep them from being "found" I also agree that we need to have a "clear" picture of what our husband or mate looks like.......another place in the Bible says that" where there is no vision people perish".......it also states to "write the vision and to make it plain"......so when you are asking be detailed , God is faithful be patient and you will know him when he comes.
I agree on one final point the writer of the article is operating out of a lot of pain and bitterness , we can not allow our loves to be dictated by these very dangerous emotions.......OK that s my soapbox for today !!!!!

Hey beautiful Nessa! You bring up some good points also the writer Debra is CLEARLY BITTER...apparently she is at her wits end with Black men in the Church, maybe she has experienced some of this along with many other black women and decided to put in out there on blast...but at any rate....people should not expect the find a godly man in Church...they should keep their options open and find love where love finds them.
There is some truth to this. The scripture that I hear quoted most often is the one telling Christians not to be"unevenly yoked" to non-believers. Some women will absolutely refuse to even consider dating a man unless he's involved in the church and is a "strong man of God"
When I first met my husband he didn't go to church, but he started going with me. It grew on him. I never pushed religion on him.
The categories of men listed in the article were pretty funny. I have a few more:
1. Widowers with numerous children looking for a replacement mother figure
2. Closet perverts who try to grope people on the sly
3. Young wannabe preachers in training
4. Elected officials keeping up a front
5. Men who truly care and work to make a difference Believe it or not, there are a few.
