Are you letting go of old misguided ideas?

Let go of old ideas.

Some weight loss surgery patients are afraid to eat when they are told to progress from pureed to solid food--and they restrict what they eat. Others start sneaking foods they miss early on, and suffer the physical consequences.

WLS does not remove misguided ideas about food and eating. It only makes your stomach smaller and sometimes introduces a malabsorptive component. What you think about food and how you eat is your job to evaluate and modify. You might need some help from a nutritionist, coach, or therapist. The "new you" wants to take responsibility for practicing a new way of thinking and a new way of approaching food. Do you have a sane approach to eating and food that is based on your new physical and emotional needs?

Action for the day: Take a few minutes today to consider how you think about eating and food. Are your ideas about these things going to serve you well now?

This may be the hardest part of loosing and maintaining for both post ops and non ops as well.  Our minds are resistant to change; but we must keep trying to adopt that new outlook that will serve us well and let go of the old ideas that lead to obesity.

I totally agree. The other aspect of this that is very sad to me is when our minds are resistant and many refuse to seek the help available to us. Many take it as a sign of weakness to seek help with support groups, therapists, etc. Or they are too proud to seek help. When this is done they are only hurting themselves. It is a real tragedy to me.

We did not get obese if we did not have serious problems with food issues so to seek help is the sign of a strong individual, not a weak one. There is nothing wrong with saying I need help. There is something wrong when you deny yourself and remain in denial regarding the mental aspects of obesity and hang on to the misguided ideas that made us obese.

So well said!  Reaching goal is not the same as finding sanity where food is concerned.
