Are you truly happy after weight loss surgery? Does being thin bring you happiness ?

I am at a very happy point in my life however, it's not solely based on my weight loss.  Weight and poor health were one aspect of my life that I wanted to change but it was not so extreme that it consumed my entire life.

If a person is in a happy place in their life (regardless of weight) they will be happy; if you are at a bad/sad period in your life you will feel accordingly.

IMHO weight loss is not the magic bullet for a life full of ultimate bliss.....life is made up of so many variables that determine our state of mind.

But guess what I'd rather be slim and sad than fat and sad :)  The weight loss is the icing on my life cake & that cake has many slices (career, home, friends, family etc)

You've made some good point too!  IMHO weight loss is not the magic bullet for a life full of ultimate bliss.....life is made up of so many variables that determine our state of mind.

You are right it is not the magic bullet, some people truly believe if they got slim and trim a magic fairy will come down and give the the perfect life, make them runway model, money, big home, cars, great job, a hot new man/woman. But losing weight just makes us healthy and thinner, we have to work hard to achieve the rest just like every other thin person, I have to admit I was pretty happy when I was fat, I am not thin now, and I am still just a happy person,.....I guess it does help to squeeze into skinny jeans that will cheer up anyone.

I can say that I am happy. I'm a lot happier now since I had WLS surgery than I was before I had WLS. Happiness comes within yourself not based on others.

I like your view on happiness....it comes within and it is not based on weight, it comes with loving youself and others! I love your perspective!

Honestly, I am not where I want to be on my wl journey but I can say that happiness comes from within.  I thought that once I got the weight off that I would be blissful.  Unfortunately it didn't happen that way.  I was totally miserable at my lowest weight of 202.  I wanted to be in onederland so bad, I didn't even enjoy being at 202.  I had to refocus on optimum health and not the number on the scale.  I have a wonderful husband, two great kids and a great support system, but it took me to gain weight to realize that happiness is not in a number.

I thank God for my journey and the lessons learned on this journey.  I thank God for guiding me and showing me that without him I am nothing.  I lost my way trying to get to this magical wl number but I had to see for myself that its not about the numbers, its about obtaining optimum mental and physical health.

I hope that answers your question.

JusChanJ, I think as long as you stay postive and have a happy out look on life you can acheive anything you want negatively and being about people that does not share you same goals can sometimes inhibit progress.  As long as you still have good phsical health anything is possible! Stay positive and keep focused you can do it!

Naomi, I really didn't think you were bragging in this post today. I just think that you are happy for yourself and that is fine. Sometimes you are misunderstood.

Its okay to be happy on your journey and its okay to share without people thinking that you are rubbing it in someone's face.

Do you feel guilty about happiness because it may offend others who may not be experiencing happiness in their own lives?

Absolutely not.

I am, however, sensitive to others' feelings and would not purposely "rub it in" if I'm doing well in a certain area where someone else is lacking.  It's one thing to share your happiness and quite another to gloat.

Very appropriate distinction, I believe.
