I am thinking about making a career change from banking to insurance claims. I was wondering if it will be worth my time and effort. I worked claims before. I know there are a lot demanding people and lots of phone work, but I am more concerned about the benefits.

What kind of medical do they offer and is the coverage good? I am paying an arm and a leg now for medical for me and my son and still have to pay $40 just to see a doctor. I never paid that much in the past. It's insane.

Also, I would have my choice of hours. Either I can chose 6am-3pm or 8am to 5pm.

It would definitely be a step up in pay, but I am more concerned about the benefits and how they treat their employees.

Any help/advice/suggestions are welcomed.

I've never worked for bc/bs but I've worked for several companies in banking and insurance.  Its been a while since I left those industries, but benefits then were average and fairly similar in both.  The advantage in insurance was each co I worked for had flex time while banks had fixed hours.  The health coverage was not better in insurance.

If you have a firm offer consider asking to see the benefit package before making a decision.  Today companies realize details such as premiums and co pays can be the swing in rejecting or accepting a position.

Good luck.

Thanks OA KCB!

That would definitely be a deciding factor. I think I would like the flex time a little better too.

Hello,

I am sorta late but thought id just give my .02. Although my insurance now is way better than i had when i worked for bcbs, it was still very good with bcbs. BCBS paid the monthly premium for employee only, coinsurance was 90% their portion and 10% my portion. Copays were 15.00 and 30.00... Deductible was 500.00.

The health benefits starts on your first day with no waiting periods. Paid time off/vacation was good. They have around 12 paid holidays a year. They also had other perks, like on-site gym, conceirge, onsite wellness center, onsite drop in daycare for emergencies and when school is out, discounts, and much more.

Although every Blue Cross Blue Shield is not the same i believe that most of them offer good benefits and perks. If this is something that you really want to do then go for it.... Good luck

Thanks Totalblizz!

That sounds better than what I am getting and paying for now. 80/20; 3000.00-family. I like the no wait period for coverage and I like the drop in daycare for emergencies, that would be great!

I have already submitted my application and my interview is this Tuesday. Wish me luck!

Thanks again!
