Questions about fat ......x-post

I understand that DS patients don't necessarily have to worry about fat calories because they don't absorb a great deal of them.  What about us any idea how fat is metabolized in our new systems.  Fat keeps things moving for me if you know what I mean.  But when I log my foods a great deal of my calories come from cheese, sour cream, I still eat butter, and nuts.  Should I assume that I absorb all of the calories from fat or just a portion.  I know there are no hard and fast numbers out there but an estimate or any thoughts please share.

Thanks

As it was explained to me: Malsbsorbtion is mainly from fats.  We need to have enough fat so we must eat them.  And should enjoy them with portion control, that is all things in moderation.  Over time the level of malabsorption is not as great as it was in the begining.  However, some malapsorption will always exist.  It should not be an excuse to over indulge (as in deep fried everything or a dozen strips of bacon at once).  Just eat a moderate amount of fats in healthy foods.  Regain often occurs when malabsorption begins to decline but new habits were not developed.  The early years are your window of opportunity to get the fats and everything else under control.
