Thanks for putting this up Double_Ayy.

I've been meaning to sign my kids back up again.  I think I'll leave them in it year round this time to make sure it sticks.  I'm another one that doesn't know how to swim.  My mother grew up in backwoods Alabama so no swimming lessons. She had a brother who drowned on a fishing trip.  He was in the Navy and knew how to swim but apparently not that well.  So that caused a serious fear of water for my mother.  I never had swimming lessons because of it.  Now get this... We were a military family and when we were stationed in Panama every kid in the neighborhood had a darned pool party.  You know she let my non swimming behind go every time.  Talk about cruel and unusual punishment. I nearly drowned at one of them because another child pushed me in the deep end.  I still don't know how to swim and I'm not passing that mess on to my kids.  In fact this was my year to learn since I've dropped the weight, so I'm signing up when I sign up the kids.  Thanks!

When I was 10, my mother parked my ass in a swim class all summer. While I never quite learned to dive, I learned to swim. Now, while I won't be swimming across the Atlantic, I can stay afloat until the rescue boats arrive should the ship go down with me on it.

I'm just saying, black folks not knowing how to swim is the same as black women not exercising because they don't know what to do with their hair. Stop it. Just stop it.
