Very interesting, Doug.  I knew about cuckoos laying their eggs in other birds' nests, but I didn't know other species did this too.

A pair of Mallards have moved into our neighborhood!  They eat at the bird feeder across the street most days, but we haven't figured out where their nest is located yet.

(If I remember correctly...you are right about cuckoos...and if I remember correctly Brown-headed Cowbirds will even lay eggs in cuckoo nests...LOL.)

Wow what a interesting and lazy ass bird.   LOL.  Laying it's big ass greedy eggs for other birds to hatch and take care of and know dam well it's chicks eat way more and he ain't gone come back with no food to help out.

I see these birds all the time around here. Along with the boattail grackles. You would LOVE it here in Texas. They have sooo many interesting birds and they LOVE to sing from morning to night and I love to hear their songs.

I've lived near an aboretum for 15-20 years but never thouht about checking it out.  Perhaps this year I'll get some binoculars and see if I can spot a bird or two.
