Caging the Hunger Demon on 2 week Liquid Diet Pre-Op

Started my two week liquid diet last night at midnight. I felt as if I was coming off a bad drunk or something.  I had a headache when I got to work tonight, but it seems to be going away finally.  Seems like every four hours, I get hungry.  Haven't cheated, so I got one day out of the way.  I'm trying to keep my eye on the prize, but I need some suggestions.  I am a type II Diabetic and I am very concerned about keeping my blood sugars level.  My NUT suggested using milk in the protein shakes, skim milk actually, but I hate milk.  I made a little spreadsheet for my diet, so far I have just under 700 calories and 117 grams of protein today.

Yeah the liquid diet is the DEBIL!!!   You will survive I also WAS a Type II diabetic and had no problems with blood sugar if anything my numbers got better.  Be strong it gets better.  I started to realize how strong my addiction to food was at this point and it really opened my eyes.  I still struggle quite a bit.  Good luck to you and your upcoming surgery.  I don't regret my decision one bit I have had not one complication the mental struggle is tough  though put your seat belt on and get ready for a crazy ride.

I did not have liquid only but I was so incredibly hungry I was literally freaking out.  Spacing my protein was the key.  I split my shakes so I had four small 13g protein shakes instead of two 26g shakes.

Once I had a little protein every two to three hous I was ok.  I could manage on less than the full four feedings permitted as long as protein was spaced throughout the day.

I know the liquid diet is the .    I am so glad that I only had to do liquid diet for 24 hours prior to surgery.  I like that you have created a spreadsheet.  Hang in there...it is tough but you can do this because you have waited for so long!

Well, it is day 5 of the 14 day liquid diet, and I am feeling good.  No lightheadiness, no real hunger.  I am at work this weekend at my plant in a supervisor role while my supervisor is on vacation.  I was kind of concerned since I wouldn't be able to do my normal outside work.  On Saturday, I actually cooked a low fat chili for my wife and kids.  I had a little of the soup for dinner.  Today, I found a digital scale in the control room and checked to see if it worked.  It wasn't working, but it had a digital battery in it.  I used my battery for my blood glucose meter and checked my weight.  321 lbs.  How YOU doin'!

(in my best Rasputia Lattimore voice)

I've already lost my pre-op weight that the NUT wanted.  I can't wait for my consult Tuesday.  Maybe there is something to this pre-op diet after all.  Peace.
