Lmbo! I agree with you. We as women AND men need to step up and get ourselves together. It was the way the guy said it that pushed my button. Even after losing over 100lbs I still want to stand up for ALL my big girlz because I know where I came from and I know that it only takes one missed workout and extra piece of this or that to get back there. I never said looks don't matter cause they do! We are all attracted to one another physically first then all the other deep things come into play. When I was in high school I had a few guys that liked me but never followed through because I was overweight. That made me feel even worse, I guess my take on it is don't discount me. Knowing that made me want to lose the weight even more and I did but it came right back. If you read the article most of the responses agree with you too. I guess the truth really does hurt...

but the truth shall set you free!

Trust - I had the same revelation - went on a blind date and the guy was nice to me, but in that 'I don't wanna hurt the fat girl's feelings' kinda way - MAJOR head trip for me.

!!!!!!  ...and I repeat........and add a !!!

Being thick – BUT FIT – is where it’s REALLY at.

Exactly!  Curves are wonderful and I love mine, but I don't love double chins, belly rolls and back fat!  Not to mention, having a fatty heart, liver or diabetes ain't so damn cute either.  There is a difference between being curvy and being obese!  Too many black women have excused their obesity and it's killing us.

Now...(I'm just being real here) the men that are truly attracted to me like tall, full bodied, curvaceous women (no small women for these men) with that said, they still don't want a floppy, flabby belly and hanging saggy breasts or a woman with no energy, who can't move around or who breaks a sweat getting up to get the phone!!!  Fit and healthy and soft yet in shapely.  That is always sexy!

Love is all there is, ever was or ever will be...

You know I lately seen MORE plump women both black and white who are about and about hugged up and seem to be very much in love lately more than ever...again the word was "plump" and not severely morbidly obese.

I think NO ONE male or female is naturally attracted to morbidly obese people, it is not a turn on for most people if they would have to date someone who can't catch their breath, or is too heavy to even make love, I think men and women are naturally sexually attracted to people that APPEAR HEALTHY...now that said, I am NOT attracted to VERY SKINNY MEN either, just like a lot of MEN are NOT attracted to VERY SKINNY WOMEN...it can go both ways, I think the bottom line is most people really are not attracted to either the very skinny or the very obese....because both seem to very unhealthy...ALso I look at the WHOLE package, education, facial features, eyes, hair etc, all that makes a man atttractive to ME.

I just recently gained some weight back I am wearing a size 14 now...I HONESTLY get more attention at this size than when I was a size 10...maybe I look younger and healthier in the face to men...but I can HONESTLY SAY...I probably WOULD NOT GET SO MUCH ATTENTION AT 300 POUNDS..THO...just keeping it real.....

I could not find that article, I am sure it is interesting....

Sorry you couldn't find it. Go to essence.com and search "a belle in brooklyn" or look under "weight-y matters" and it should come up. Ur right NO ONE is attracted to obesity! But does it help to make ppl feel unwanted or discounted? That's a BIG issue we have in this world, making ppl feel bad about themselves cause they aren't the "norm".

For almost thirty years I've known a man who only dates obese women. Three hundred plus, dark skinned, short hair, well educated, fiercly stylish, ghetto fab not accepted, lol.  Everybody is someone's type but obesity will make most of us fewer men's type.

I've been fat all my life and FIT all my life.  I could handle two hours at the gym at 285 lbs and I did a HARD workout.  I raised an obese daughter who is still obese but with her VBG two years post op, she is still loosing slowly.  I raised a gym rat just like me.

Neither of us have ever had any difficulty pulling in men and we're still doing well as we loose weight.  We attract good men, even at our highest weights.  Of course we also attract some creepy freaky types too.  We may not be all men's type but we are some men's type.

I would never hit the gym, loose weight, or change my life to get a man.  I live for ME.  You either want me as is or you just don't want me in which case why would I give a rats @$$?   There is someone out there with whom the attraction will be mutual.

I've come across an increasing amount of brothers with erectile issues. There are many issues that affect that. So, while some of them may be "slim" they aren't healthy. There is no reason why your penis doesn't work and you're only 35.

Someone needs to write a damn article about that!!!!
