Health Care Reform

Happy Monday OH Family,

Ok, good, bad or indifferent, Obama came and did what he said he would do with regards to health care reform. The bill might not be perfect, and yes, it is costly, but it is a start. Those who are uninsured or underinsured are hopefully grateful that our President fought for the people, and not big business.

Is it safe to say that President Obama has done more in 14 months, than "Old Chimp Lips" did in 8 miserable years?

What say you BAF? Weigh in on this controversial piece of legislation. I want to hear opinions.

I'm elated that it passed! True, it's not perfect, but no more caps or pre-existing conditions halts to deal with...that's enough to get me

For me, thi****s really close to home. Lost my job last October and I'm having issues with my insurance. Sent my premium in and I was told that it was received late. I was like WTF??? I appealed and was denied. Sucks to be me right now. Thankfully, my son is covered and his premium is only $40/month.

My state will not provide care for me because of my income. This is week three of waiting for BCBS to decide if they will carry me. I have no issues with paying for my premiums, but WLS is a pre-existing condition and this **** is draaaagggiiiinnnggg out. I had to answer questions about my health for the last 10 years. Did I leave something out? I hope I didn't cause if I did I'm screwed. That will be that will be their way out...

Hopefully, I will hear something this week about my insurance. I'm getting married in the summer and I'll have the new hubby's benefits. BUT I NEED INSURANCE NOW

Wonkad, I am reminded of a story my sister told me who is an O.R. nurse. Back during her days working the emergency room, there was a young lady who came into the ER because her right breast was hard (as a brick). They discovered that she had breast cancer, but at that point it was too late to do anything to save her. She had been symptomatic for 3 years and never saw a doctor because she didn't have insurance. WTF? She died of breast cancer at the age of 27. Again, WTF?

As an independent contractor, I contacted BCBS and they turned me down based on meds I am taking now, however you have an advantage as judging by your pics you reached your goal weight. I did not.
Tis better to be dis-liked than to be loved by them cuz your always on their mind.

Pinkster,

Goal made, but HOW I got there is going against me. Future issues (bowel obstructions, ulcers) is what I think BCBS is now looking at.

I dunno about this....the MAJORITY OF AMERICA DO NOT LIKE THIS...AND THEY VOTE...so it will be interesting to see if Obama makes a second term in office....this WILL affect a LOT of upper income folks who have stable jobs...meaning those who make over $50K per year and pay taxes...this WILL AFFECT their bottom line and they WILL SEE a DIRECT IMPACT IN their payroll checks.....but again I agree something had to be done the sad thing is the average middle class american don't realize that they WILL BE PAYING THESE PREMIUMS FOR the less fortunate.....

Where are you getting this 50k number? There will subsidies for people (ex, a family of 4 making under 88k).
Honey, we are ALREADY paying for folks with no health insurance! Look at all the people that are forced to use the ER as their Dr. office because they don't have anything else! The good thing about this is that people will be able to start getting PREVENTATIVE care instead of addressing things that are too far gone, like the previous poster talked about the woman with breast cancer.

Yea...we are ALREADY paying for people with no health insurance, for people on welfare too by paying taxes.....BUT...we don't SEE that directly in our PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS...you see we can sort of "right that off"..but with the NEW BILL...we WILL SEE THAT directly in our paycheck..you know the FICA...that you can't do anything about...it's an automatic deduction...AND OH...the 50K was just an arbitrary number...it can be any amount..I just used that as a baseline ....you get the point...

I just hope there will not be fraud and abuses with it...I don't mind helping those who truly need it.
