Hi All,

I am in the sixth month of my medically supervised diet. I work out 4 to 5 day per week for approximately 45 mins to an hour each time. My question is: how do you manage your hair when working out? I wash my hair (relaxer) 3 times per week because my head sweats during my workouts. But lately my hair has been very brittle and dry (I think it is from washing it so much). Any suggestions you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you considered going natural? It's a lifesaver for me and my new active lifestyle

Ummm - I know the natural was suggested - but if you're like me with ****a Kente brillo pad natural hair - relaxers are a permanent must........LOL!!

I wash my hair 3 to 4 times a week for the same reason - I work out at least 3 times each week.  However - I don't use shampoo with every wash.  Pantene has a conditioner specifically for relaxed hair - I wash with shampoo once a week - the other times I wet my hair fully then apply the conditioner and let it sit for 3-5 min, then rinse.

I've found I'm able to keep my hair from becoming brittle and dull doing this.  Salty Pickle had posted about it a while ago - I think she said it's called 'co washing' as in conditioner washing.

I wash my hair with conditioner every couple days.   I only use shampoo once a month and it helps my hair from getting stripped of moisture.

I agree with salty. Also you need to make sure you moisturize do not shampoo more than once a week. Shampoo is stripping the moisture from the hair.  I do conditioner washes (use conditioner as shampoo) and then apply my cantu shea butter leave in or whatever moisturizer you use.

I usually bun my hair in the baggie method to moisturize it during workouts and at night and that seems to keep the brittleness away for me. Thanks to Salty Pickle for posting info about that awhile back!

I love all of the suggestions.  I have found that wigs & weave to work wonders.  The thing that I love the most are weave caps.  Its like a wig but is is made to fit the style, color and shape of your head.  I just take it off before a workout & use my workout wig like Wendy Williams does.  I hope this helps ;O)

Leave in Conditioner is your best friend try Aphogee Leave in Conditioner it helps with dry brittle hair and it for African American women with all textures of hair, do not shampoo that much because it does strip the hair of natural moisture
