Chrisitians: Tell everybody OR Keep it on the downlow???

Hey BAF -- I'm a newbie first post on this forum, hope you all can help a sista out...
My surgery is tomorrow!  I'm at ease with my WLS decision-mainly because I've invested time in educating myself about it and I've prayed about it till I got peace.
But I've read alot of horror stories about other people getting judged once they reveal their decision, facing snide remarks & being gossiped about, being accused of taking the lazy way out, etc.
I just want to know the reality of what some of you dealt with in revealing your surgery to co-workers??
I didnt tell anyone before I left Friday -(I'm using 2 weeks of my own vacation -- not FMLA or sick days).  But when I start losing I know the questions will start. Even though my heath decision is none of their business -- I don't want to lie or tell half-truths like "I'm eating less & exercising."
Was anybody bold enough to pry further? What did you tell them...??

It depends on what you feel the reaction may be and whether you want to deal with it.  I chose to be open in my workplace - and I'm glad I did, there's a lady that ended up having WLS because she saw how I made it work.  But I'm the type person that if you tell me what I should have done or that what I did was easy, lazy or whatever - you WILL hear how I feel about your opinion and it's not gonna be pretty.........

If you're the type to be easily offended or get your feelings hurt - you should keep it to yourself.  And who the heck give a dayum about whether it's a half truth?  What about those folk makes you indebted to give them all the facts about your life?  My motto is 'If you ain't payin the bills, you don't NEED to know'........

That's the problem...I am easily offended, but I am also a Christian and don't want to feel like I have to lie when they ask....and knowing my co-workers, they will ask...

Ummm - I'm a Christian too and I guess I missed the rule that says you owe everyone full details and answer to any question they ask you......

So, fellow Christian - what's your current checking account bank balance and what's your PIN#?  Oh - and what's your SSN#?

My point?  Every question doesn't deserve an answer - either at all or full disclosure.  Saying that you've changed your eating habits and are exercising isn't lying - it's taking ownership of your own personal information and details, nothing wrong with that.

The correct answer to that question without lying is you changed your eating habbits and started  exercising.

I didn't tell anyone except for my two friends who had to take care of me, and I have not regretted that decision in the last 5 years. If you know you are sensitive or whatever, you may find protection in keeping your business to yourself. No one needs to know your business about this - and yes, unfortunately you will be judged and questioned about your weight loss, but the same people will judge you anyway. Based on the way you asked your question, I would probably keep it to myself... all the best on your weight loss surgery....

Wow, congratulations on your surgery tomorrow,  cool.   if you were having the bypass or sleeve i would say they are gonna know something more than diet and exercise is up because with those surgeries it comes off FAST,,  i know when Star Jones said "oh im dieting and exercising" everyone was like,  ah   something else has to be going on,  you don't lose that kinda weight that fast with just diet and exercising,  but my understanding is that with the band the loss is a slower process so you could probably get away with saying that, and its not a lie,  you will be dieting and exercising, so i say do whatever you are comfortable doing   everyone on my job know i am in appeal for the sleeve and hopefully i will win.  So do what feels right to you for you and God Bless and think only good thoughts tomorrow, i'll be thinking of you and wishing you well.

I'm new to the forum as well, and also a Christian, but the long and short of it. Thou Shall Not Lie aka tell the truth shame the devil.....

clearly if you are going through with this you've prayed about it and have a clear heart and mind, if not then you may want to get that before surgery ( smiles ), but real talk who cares what other folks think, people will always judge you be they Christians or otherwise so tell the truth and be proud of your decision, be proud of self, besides your truth could be a testimony IJS..

Its true, I'm no Superwoman. Despite the § on my chest, but the Woman in me is filled with integrity and the will to do the impossible, the desire to fulfill the dreams of the masses.

I'm trying to figure out how being a Christian ties into weight loss surgery.
