A hole in my bowel ahhhhhhhh!

Everyone Please pay close attention to hernia's and pain.

I knew I had a small hernia and my surgeon was keeping an eye on it. A couple of weeks ago I experienced terrible pain that I excused as severe gas for two days.

I left work and went to the surgeon he sent me to get a cat scan and recommended immediate surgery to repair the hernia. I refused immediate surgery because I could not wrap my head around going to work, going to the doctor then being admitted to the hospital in the same day without going home. (I know, I know) I was placed on liquids and soft foods.

The surgery was planned lap however, he had to open me when he saw the tear in my bowel. I went in hospital for a same day surgery and stayed 3 1/2 days. Had 2 transfusions and lots of fluids.

During the last bout of extreme pain my bowel got caught in the tear in the abdomen (the hernia) and it tore a hole in my bowel. The surgeon could not see the hole in the bowel on the cat scan prior to surgeon.

I'm home now on drugs recuperating; still on liquids and soft foods. I know I should not be thinking about it but how is it that I have gained 9 pounds and I have been on liquids and soft foods for 2 weeks ahhhhhhhhhhhh. But it's all good I'm doing well it all could have ended so differently!

Everyone take care of yourself, question your doctors/surgeons abut everything and don't self diagnose :)

Wow............talk about going through the storm.

..!!!! ! Praying that you have a strong and speedy recovery..............................You'll probably see that weight loss pretty soon too!

Thanks. I think I'm probably retaining a lot of the fluid they pumped into me during the hospitalization.

wow I have been having excrutiating pain in my abdomen and they dont know what it is. I had a scan where they inject the die. and still nothing. i need help. It feels like gas and when i vomit with the pain im burping at the same time but no passing gas. I dunno. but the pain was so bad if i had my gun I prolly would have shot myself.

What it your weight loss surgeon that ordered the cat scan? If so have your primary or someone else to re evaluate you. Pain is the body is giving you a message that something is not right. I did the whole dye thing also and the surgeon did not see the tear in my bowel at that time (because it probably just happened 20 minutes before the scan and I had not eaten much the 2 days prior) But he was able to see the hernia better.

After trying every gas remedy from everyone mama, and an pookie and dem I knew it had to be the hernia or something related. Continue to advocate for yourself right away; you are having pain is for a reason make noise until diagnosed. Do you have your gallbladder, if so how did it look?

Sounds EXACTLY like my situation!! I was also told to take milk of magnesia at night and another liquid during the day - the gastro doctor told me it was what they called bacterial overgrowth (what the heyll!) - I see him again on Thursday...but had the scan, upper GI with contrast...and nothing. Gall bladder was removed during wls.

Whew lawd!

We used to sing a country-azz song similar to what you went through back when I was in Kindergarten called "Hole in the bucket (dear Liza)." But since this is 2010 you know I had to do a remix right:

Sorry you had to experience all that but I'm glad to know that you're doing much better. (I know, I know... thank the good Lawd for prescription drugs right?) Take care of yourself, Homie.
