Be careful with that knee because those symptoms prompted my last and most serious knee surgery. I had to have a lateral release because of the buckling of my knee and my kneecap kept dislocating. I went through lots of physical therapy and was exercising a lot back then. They had to go in my old orthoscope scars and do some surgery and then cut the side of my knee to release a tendon or ligament and fix it up. I had a 6-8 week recovery but I was heavy then. It is great now and it feels like new but my other knee is going through it. I pray that you will recover quickly because you are in great shape.
The best thing you can do right now is to flex your quads while you sit and build strength in just your quads without putting pressure on your legs. Your quads will protect your knees and the stronger they are, the more protected your knees are. Good luck.
