Hello,

I am trying to prepare myself  ahead of time for when I have the WLS. Can some please let me know what  products I should have on hand at home or at the hospital when the WLS is completed? I am lost in this area.

Thank you in advance,

You will need the following after surgery:

(in the hospital)
a call button to get the the nurse to re-up those pain meds.

(at home)
clean, warm/bed, however you like it
more pain meds (at least 2 or 3 days worth)
protein drinks and water
sf popsicles
vitamins (chewable multivitamins)
vitamin e oil to rub on those incisions (can double as massage oil) LOL
broth (chicken, beef, veggie- or whatever that doesn't make you want to puke)
encouragement to move around (i.e.- supportive spouse, kids, or friends)
pepcid/tums
chewable calcium citrate

Those things made my  recovery great! Although you will despise food and bevarage for quite sometime try to get in all you can because no food equals a weak body.  Don't forget to simply ask your surgeon about the correct vitamins, seems like all surgeons have variations to their plan. Good luck!!

Just a few more steps to wonderland......and believe me I am taking baby steps (ugh).

Get clearence from your doctor before rubbing anything on your wounds.  You don't want to create a problem while trying to minimize the appearance.  Thirty days of nothing but antibacterial soap was my surgeon's rule.

Just buy a minimal supply of whatever is on your post op diet.  You may not like whatever you stock up on today post op.  Taste can change after wls.

Fill all persscriptions,  have protein shakes, sf jello, sf popcicles, water, plain broth on hand.  I was on pureed foods after three days so a mimi food processor came in handy.  I did not need anything else.
