I went to a wls support group tonight and it was packed with women of other ethnic groups and it was thinning hair everywhere.  They all had RNY.  I want a sleeve...although the nutritionist feels that since I have sugar issues I should do RNY.  Please Ladies tell me your experiences.

Thinning hair is a fact of WLS.  The amount of loss differs for everyone, but it does happen.
I am in the middle of going through this right now.  I don't feel that it is noticable to anyone other than me.  And it may not be that noticable since I wear my hair natural.

Don't let that deter you to getting healthy ~ your hair will grow back.

i notice that you are in Toledo, that is my home town.

Ditto that!....I'm in the midst of the hair loss and thinning process also.  I realize that it is directly related to the wl and change in nutrients our bodies receives and processes.  However, I have observed also at church, sorority meetings, athletic events...everywhere I look around that women in general, especially we women of color, are having real noticeable issues with thinning  hair and hair lose.  I know for sure ALL these women have not gone through wls.  Is it hereditary and/or age?  Is the chemicals and colors we use?  Stress?  I'm not sure, but there are others out there thinning and losing hair other than us wl folks.......Just my personal observation and thoughts!

I agree with what everyone else has said so far. I heard the hair loss would begin 3 months and pretty much end by 6 months. I've just come up on 6 months and I feel like the shedding is definately slowing down. I have very thick hair, but I didn't like the hair loss or just the general way it felt. But I just kept tracks in or used hair pieces. ( I wear them frequently anyway) so it was no big deal, and I decided not to perm it until I came to the end of the 3 month period. I just kept it really moisturized and washed it every two weeks, and I didn't bother it too much. I can tell that it's back to normal, and will probably get a perm within the next few weeks And it was DEFINITELY worth the results of the RNY.

my hair broke off badly in spots after perming it (i wore my hair natural for 10 years) and it looked worse after surgeries, however, after cutting my hair very short and wearing weaves and braids i was very surprised to see my hair growing back and the thin spots filling in, i use biotin twice a day in addition to the vites and protein supplements. my nails are even in better condition and i wear uv gel. although bad habits die hard, i tend to wear my hair back which does not help the thinning at the edges..

Mine gone also was not taking bition and protien as needed. So there went the HAIR Just got a cut today and it's  1 inch long.  I started with hair pass shoulder length. I'm getting my cry on tonight and getting myself together and back on track.  It's not pretty looking at the short cut if it was just short maybe I could deal better but it's also thinning.
