MY BODY IS FAILING ME AND IT'S SCREWING WITH MY HEAD
Hey SP!
I am praying that your knees heal completely. I found this link to some information and I am sure you know all that is contained in this article:
http://running.about.com/od/injuryrecovery/tp/runninginjurye motions.htm
BUT I agree with Keke...perhaps this is an opportunity for you to contact a rec center and learn how to swim. They have water aerobics which involve running in the water which is less tacking on the body. It could be something to help tide you over until you are back to running on the ground AND might even help your recovery. They do have life jackets and rings that you can use even if you can't swim at first.
Regardless, you are in my thoughts. I so feel for you that you can't enjoy an activity that gives you great satisfaction & pleasure......hang in there. HUGS!

Yeah I realize there are many other exercises I can and will do. I will always workout regardless, I just had finally decided that since I taught myself to be a runner I was finally in a mental state to actually train for a full marathon and as soon as I get my mind right my body fell apart. First it was my spine my L4 and 5 and S1 and now my ragedy knee.
Last year I tore a ligament in this same knee and it healed, it took forever but it healed. I think I have a bum knee now.
I will see what happens once the swelling and pain goes away.

You know I don't get to serious, even when i'm in a sad ass ****ty mood I still laugh or got somebody laughing.
I'm just annoyed with my dam knee, If I could bend my foot forward I would kick my knees ass. But oh well.
I accept it, i'm old damit. I got a dam AARP membership form and some dam funeral arrangement papers yesterday in the mail. They waste no time putting your ass under the ground.

I live in Ace bandages and motrin, tylenol or any of that stuff won't take the swelling away.
My doc refuses to give me a cortizone shot because this is the same knee that I tore the ligament in twice last year and he says he refuses to give me a temporary fix that will cause me permanent damages down the road.

Lee you're doing more damage to your knee by trying to run on it while it's injured. I just read an article in Fitness magazine about women's injuries. Women are more susceptible to knee injury due to our hormones and the curve of our hips. They did a study on female athletes because we had more acl injuries than men.
Even if you can't swim, you can jog in water and it burns more calories and it uses every muscle in the body. When I rehabbed my knee after my surgeries I would use a treadmill in a water tank but then I would go to the Y and jog in the pool in water up to my shoulders. I like the water up high and I also like to swim but you can jog in water just past your waist and it takes the pressure off of your joints. 30 minutes of vigorous walking in the water is equivalent to 2 hrs, on land. If you continue to push yourself then you're going to cause more damage. You should let an orthopedist look at it and either water walk/jog, jog on trampoline or do a bike until you are healed. It's not your age, it's your body telling you that something is wrong.
