Hello,

Sorry, I've never had a breast reduction so I can't help you with the pain question.

Did you have surgery Nov '09 or '08?

If '08, are you at goal? Are you maintaining? Sucks to have a reduction and lose more weight. You would probably end up with sags.

If '09, I suggest you wait until you're further out (18mos+) and you've maintained your weight.

Wait, I just looked at your profile...you're having a revision? If you haven't had it yet, I would mos def wait until after.

Just my two cents....

I admit to total ignorance of the procedure but I have an opinion to share anyway.  I've never had breast reduction but after wl I sure would love a pair of new perky ones.

I'd be surprised if your reduced breast stayed perfect after major weight loss.  Unless they can pull all the fat out so you would not loose in that area, weight loss comes from wherever the body chooses.

The girls may sag again when you're at goal but the medical issue will be resolved.  For me, that's what counts hence my sagging boobs are for keeps.    If I waited years in pain, I'd have it taken care of asap.  Cosmetically not the best option but in my opinion pain trumps looks.

What was your starting weight and what is your goal weight? As well, how much weight have you lost? Depening on your answers, in my opinion, would depend on if your boobs would droop again.
If it were me and I was offered a breast reduction in April, I would be on the operating quick, fast and in a hurry.  Yes indeed!!

I've been a DDD for ALONG time now and have currently lost 92lbs, with a starting weight of 395 and goal weight of 200. My boobs are now LONG and FLAT, as my daughter described them yesterday. Because I have already lost a major amount of fat already in my boobs, I doubt I would have a sagging issue, if I were to have a breast reduction. Put it this way, they wouldn't be looking like they look RIGHT NOW. I look a hot mess. Yikes!

GO FOR IT! Get'em lifted and get rid of the pain. Good Luck!!

Annelle

Surgery Date 9/9/2009
Starting Weight 395
Goal Weight 200
Current Weight 242

153lbs LOST....so far!

I had a breast reduction a year almost to the day BEFORE I had my WLS (I have since lost almost a hundred pounds and my breasts have not changed in size).  The composition of your breast really determines what will most likely happen after your weight loss.  In my case my breasts were mainly comprised of breast tissue and not fat.  So as I lost weight my breasts grew in size (your fat cells release estrogen as you lose weight).  If your breasts are mainly composed of fat then you might want to wait until after you have lost weight to see how extensive a procedure you might need.  I decided to have this surgery first because it was getting in the way of my exercising.  I was in constant pain prior to surgery and just couldnt take it anymore.  I will say that my PS was absolutely incredible and my scars are almost unnoticeable.  She did not use the anchor incision and perfers to simply make the incisions around the nipple and under the breasts.  The relief for me after surgery was almost immediate.  I did not need to take any type of pain medication after surgery (but that is not common).  My only main issue was LOTS of swelling post surgery.  The swellling didnt resolve for about 6-8 months and even almost 5 years out if I overwork my right side I tend to swell a bit.

If you have more questions feel free to send me a PM.

I had my breast reduction back in 1993.  I was approved within one week after my insurance saw my photos (I could do the flip them over my shoulders movement with dem thangs.
I really can't remember what size I wore back then but I had a TOTAL reconstruction - for they removed 22 pounds of fat/breast tissue (10 right/12 left) and I went down to a 44 D.  As for the surgery itself I really wasn't in much pain in fact the night after surgery I slept on my stomach (can't sleep on my back and the drain tubes would bother me if i tried sleeping on my side) - my nurse couldn't believe that I was sleeping on my stomach after such a surgery.  Like April above, I didn't have much pain took a few Lortabs and that was it.

As for the scarring...well I keloid and my surgeon knew this so he started me on a 6 week course of steroids to help minimize the scars.  It helped.  My worse scars are around my left nipple and on the right by my armpit where the drain tube was removed.  The "T" incisions are all flat and smooth (which is great for people who keloid) and really not noticeable unless you know what to look for.  My only real concern was that it took me over 8 months to get feeling back in my left nipple/breast - probably why the scarring is worse there.

NOW, I NEED those 22 pounds back since I am now officially a member of the itty bitty ***** club with what I got - I will be looking into a breast lift (if not implants) in the next few years at the rate I'm losing my chest.  Now if only my stomach would shrink like my girls are shrinking.

BUT, I conclude that this was the second best surgery I have ever had (first being RNY) and believe me I have had a TON of surgeries!!!  Hope this helps and best wishes to you!

I had a reduction from a 46 G, down to a D cup a year and a half prior to my WLS. It hurt like all hell! White hot pain. 70 lbs down and they are still as perky and full as they were immediately post op.
