Rescue Effort for Fallen Hiker to Resume at Mount St. Helens

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/rescue-effort-fallen-hiker-resume-mt-st-helens/story?id=9849177

What is it with Thrill Seekers??? I am trying my best "not" to generalize but if we have any persons who engage in these activities lurking...please chime in...cuz I want to understand. Now...mind you I am talking about so called "normal" people and their hobbies.  Why is it that the majority of folks that want to "fall" into the mouths of volcanos, sky dive to unknown depths, jump into below freezing water naked (polar bears),  race autos around a course going over 160 mph, scale the sides of skycrapers to get into the book of records , and all those other daring sports and hobbies, records...happen to be "mostly" of this ethnic group. Now I know that there is a small number of minorities that are starting to indulge in these sports....but they are a drop in the bucket in comparison....yeah...yeah...I know there are less of us in relation to the overall population...but the numbers are still short for these types of hobbies that we indulge in as a group.   I have not done any "research"...LOL! (inside joke) on the topic BUT come on now what gives....

It can't be based on finances....have not seen too many rich black folk engaging in these hobbies either. It can't be a matter of courage, a lot of minorities demonstrate their courage on a daily basis.

What makes a person...put their lives in danger FOR a thrill ride or hobby? Inquiring minds want to know.

I did think that at one time...I wanted to try skydiving BUT the thought of me painting someone's roof with my ass....turned me off.

you stoopid cole!  Although, I've had a friend TRY to talk me into skydiving - my reply:

WHY would I jump OUT of a perfectly GOOD plane????!!!!!!!

Just like I refuse to work at a job that has an inherent risk of being shot, I refuse to do anything recreationally that has a inherent OR implied risk of DEATH........

@ WHY would I jump OUT of a perfectly GOOD plane????!!!!!!!

AND add on to that...the fact that I can now sit my butt comfortable in a seat "without" an extension needed to keep my butt in the plane ....why the heyl...would I now want to go wrapping extensions around my neck that are tied to a balloon to jump out the plane ....just doesn't make sense to me.

Just like I refuse to work at a job that has an inherent risk of being shot

Unfortunate for me...there is a slight risk of getting shot on my job....BUT that is why my escape route is not even on the evacuation plan...it involves a chair, broken glass and a big shuffling ass.

Perhaps it gives them something to do while waiting for a more thrilling roller coaster ride to come along?

You know what...you may be onto something....and they are the a-holes that think up the next new killer roller coaster. I am ole school...give me a old fashion carousel ride or one of those swing rides now that I can fit on and in them nicely...and I am cool.

I'm with you!  I have ALWAYS wondered WTH was wrong with these people.  Is life really that boring??!!!   I can't speak for everybody....but maybe...just maybe it's because many of those people don't have the DAILY thrill of trying to get through life with all the added stress and drama that many of us face.  I'm not sure.

In AZ, it NEVER fails that we get one news report after another of a hiker or some dumb azz tourist who thinks they are a hiker, who got lost in the mountains somewhere or got trapped on some flood zone wash out area and has to be rescued. Blows my mind!!!

Yes...Glam...I think you might be onto something.  Most of us have enough drama/stress to keep us occupied. Most of us would rather do low key, fun yet relatively safe things as a means of coping or destress from the normal rigors of our lives....That makes a lot of sense.

LOL Lisa!

Yes that is crazy. But I can see myself skydiving.....believe it or not.  LOL
I don't know why I'm interested in this because it really is so out of character for me.  LOL
I would be sure not to be around any buildings or houses because the visual you just gave of my azz splattered on a rooftop would NOT be pretty!

Well....Kim....two things:

1.) Take plenty of video footage so that I can live vicariously through your experience.

2.) Take a roll of toilet paper, bandages and a big ass mattress as precautionS.... Just sayin....
