Hi,

I am a new member as of today!  I am a mother and an educator and a Plus Size Model (by hobby).  I love my family and I work hard for them everyday.  I have tried to lose weight about a million times over the years and My insurance finally covers surgery.  I have to wait 6 months and see if I can lose it.  I am hoping to have the surgery in order to live in optimal health.  I have for many years been the big girl of my group of friends never really having social issues.  So, when I announced surgery to my close friends and family I recieved mixed reactions.  My BFF from college was extremely upset saying that I dont need to do it and how she thinks I am pretty and I have always had more men attracted to me than her.  She does not understand that it is not about other people.  This is about me.  I dont care who likes all this fat it is not healthy!  Some of my other friends think that she is jealous but I respect her feelings and I appreciate her concern.  I know what I need to do for me!  I could go on and on but I am sure you have all been there.  I hope to get to know you all better.

Welcome to the family. It really isn't about the friends or family it's about you being healthy. Wishing you the best of luck and a few blessings along the way

Welcome to the family. Do what you need to do for you I didn't tell a lot of people I was having surgery because this is for me. Some people don't like that I'm not the biggest one around anymore thats their problem you mite lose some friends thats OK too.

Hi Denise I'm in the beginning phrase with a 6 month wait as well.  I told my three best friends and one out of three is ok with it.  However that will not stop me from continuing my journey in becoming healthy.  I figure until they walk in my shoes than there isn't much from them to say.  I think from this point on I won"t tell anyone else unless they ask.

I'll tell you like my car saleswoman told me after I got my new car... "Watch for the haters".

Good luck on your journey, and don't forget that aside from the interesting topics on BAF and OH in general, it is a good resource for your WLS related questions.

Welcome Denise! Getting over the "family and friends" hurdle can be a tad hard, but you've already made the choice to do what's right for you. Kudos on that- may your 6 months whiz by quickly!Remember, the lifestyle changes start now.
