Keloid Skin
Hi everyone!
I'm seeking information on loose skin after weight loss if you have keloid skin (scarring). Has anyone undergone plastic surgery to remove excess skin that also has keloid skin. How did the skin heel? Are there techniques the surgeons use specifically for keloid skin patients to lessen the scarring? Any information will be appreciated.

Viv,
I haven't had plastic surgery for excess skin removal, but I have had several surgeries for different things like mole removal on my back (how we discovered I keloid) and lymph node removal on back of my neck as well as exp lap and breast reduction in the early to mid 90's. All of my surgeons (since the mole removal) have put me on a 6 to 8 week course of steroid treatment to lessen the scarring. It works (as long as you're not a scab picker like I tend to be.) The places where I picked the scarring is more vi sable than elsewhere. Now when compared to my back it's nothing. Now, not every surgeon will use steroid treatment because they weaken your immune system especially if you're having surgery. They usually will weigh the good against the bad. My scarring is very bad when they look at my before and after pics of the mole that was removed. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks a bunch!
I have had keloids treated with steroid injections over the years, and also surgically removed. I just wonder about the size of cuts for excess skin removal for weight loss and how much scarring that would lead too. I do not have a gross amount of excess skin so I'm trying to weigh future scarring vs. stay as I am (no plastic surgery). Thanks again for responding, I will continue to research and maybe track down some plastic surgeons who specialize in black skin.
Have a great day.

After my TT, my scar keloided slightly (aka hypertrophic scar)... but because I knew it ran in the fam, I told the doc beforehand. Two weeks after my TT he started me on a series of steroid injections into the scar, which breaks down the scar tissue up under the scar which causes the scare to raise (Hypertrophic scar). I had about 6 or 7 sessions & now my scar is as flat as a pancake!!!!
PS... and because the steroid is just a localized injection it wont make you gain weight, that was the 1st question I asked, LOL!!!
