Michelle Obama interview on Good Morning America

Good Morning BAFers,

I am still stuck at home from the snow 4 days ago and I patiently wait for the next blast of snow, another possible 2 feet to arrive today. So, even though I am working from home, I've got time to BAF it up, watch TV and surf the web today.

I jus****ched Robin Roberts' interview with The First Lady and I must say, as usual, I am impressed with First Lady Michelle Obama (FLMO). She's starting this initiative to help raise awareness of childhood obesity and is already meeting with criticism because people don't want to hear the truth about their kids. You know, obesity raises the cost of health care in this country because of all the health related complications to obesity. Hey, I don't need to mention what obesity does on this board. We can ALL relate.

It is my understanding that raising awareness is NOT the same as telling people what to feed their kids. This could also focus on the extremely unhealthy foods that are served in schools; the extremely high fat content in kids meals at fast food restaurants; the lack of real exercise programs in schools; and the fact that SOME of these kids are just plum lazy.

You know, I wish I'd gotten it sooner. I was a normal size in high school and ballooned in college, and just kept growing. I wish I'd gotten it sooner. I wish I'd taken my health and gym classes seriously and understood the message it was delivering. I wish I'd taken all the failed attempts at Weigh****chers and Jenny Craig seriously. I have been a member of a gym since I was 21 years old and from 21 to 38 is when I was my fattest. Why wasn't I GETTING IT?

So, if this initiative will help a parent or teenager or young person GET IT, then I am all for it. Besides, you can't demand health care in this country and not address some of the issues that have caused health care to skyrocket. It's like putting new tires on a car with a busted engine. It's expensive and makes no sense.

That is all.
