New to this site. I signed up in 2008 but never really looked at the website. Now im back with a new attitude. I was hoping some of the pros can give me any advice as to how to make this process smoother. Especially with insurance. If anyone had United Healthcare thats a plus. Also i would like to know about how long does it take from initial group meeting to "under the knife" lol. Thanx in advance!

Hi RoniR,

Welcome to BAF!!!

From what I hear Insurance has changed a lot since

I had wls I wouldn't know what to tell you.  Most surgeon's

have staff that will assist you with the process of submitting to the

insurance company though.  Find a good surgeon and

get the ball rolling but make sure you do your research on your

doctor and the surgery that is best for you. Best wishes.

Hey Roni,

The process depends on many factors. The surgeon you choose and the health insurance you have. I was lucky that I chose a Dr. who would have his surgical scheduler do the hunting down of docs for me. The best thing to do is get educated on what United Health needs for an approval and work from there. Have you chosen a surgeon yet? You're in Towson and I would highly recommend Dr. Averbach. Find out what United needs and make a checklist for that, get started and you're on your way. I have Tri-Care and it took me 6 days to get an approval and my surgery was scheduled 2 weeks later. Good luck and keep us posted.
