What did you base your goal weight on?

My surgeon discusses goal only of you ask.   He wants to see his patients loose 80% of the excess weight.  I'm 5'4 and my initial goal was 153 lbs.  I'm there now (reached at 11 months out) and I currently wear a size 4 in most brands.

At my 6 month follow up I discussed wanting a solidly normal BMI.  We lowered my goal by 13 lbs for a bmi of 24.0 and a weight of 140 lbs.

I have since decided I need to be at my ideal weight of 131 lbs, down another 9 lbs down to  a bmi of 22.5.  This was strictly a health decision and not a desire to be 'skinny'.

Size wise I want a 26" waist; however, comorbidities are the driving factor for me.  I have just one but it is more so hereditary than obesity related.  High blood pressure remains prolematic and still requires multiple meds, albeit two instead of four.  Asthma also remains which for many others resolves after wls.  I'll be discussing this with my surgeon this month at my one year post op visit.

My doctor would not discuss goal.  She focused on co-morbidities.  I had high blood pressure (3 meds and still out of control), borderline diabetic, two back surgeries and strokes run in my family.  Now all of the meds are gone and they tell me that everything is going okay.  It can be kind of frustrating when you are just winging it.  But as long as things are moving in the right direction, then okay.  I set a goal for myself based upon bmi.

I think you are doing great and should go with what you feel comfortable with as a goal weight.  Congrats on all of your success.

I picked mine while reading "The Secret". No lie.  I am no where near my goal weight and feel like a tub of lard in stilettos all the time. It actually ****** me off when people comment how you don't look as heavy as you are or you look just fine where are.

I mean what's the point of having goals if you are destined to fail and/ or settle?  Sorry for the anger this is one of my buttons.

My surgeon never gave me a goal weight either.  The only thing he said was that I would probably loose about 100 lbs.  Thankfully I surpassed that.

I never set one for myself either...as far as lbs go.   My only goal was to get down to a size 14.  I really don't care how many lbs I'm at.

we haven't set a goal weight, but i haven't really set one for myself, either. weight in comparison to size [for me, at least] is very ... funny. [i see people 20 or 30 pounds LIGHTER than me, around the same height, who are 2 to 3 sizes BIGGER than me].

what i've set is a goal SIZE. my goal size is 8. if i HAD to choose a weight, i guess it would be 145, because that's in the healthy range.

I started with the BMI chart, which put me at about 150-160 lbs for my height.  I was like "ummmmm....yeah.....that's not gonna work fo me!"  I'd loose all of my curves and look like a prehistoric chicken at that weight.   As long as my body fat remains within a healthy ratio and I'm healthy in all other aspects i.e, blood pressure, lipid levels..etc, etc,  I based it on how I feel and look and for me, 180-185 works.  Right now, I'm just over 195 lbs and I'm uncomfortable. (I gained a few lbs with my back injury)  I think you have to see how you feel and then decided.  No one but you lives in your body, so do what works for you.

My surgeon told me that I should weigh around 170 pounds for my 5'7 to 5'8 height depending on the day  and I agree...HOWEVER...I never made it there...I got close tho - one time at 188....and then I had to get my band totally unfilled when I had my hernia and all things went down hill from there....

I am getting back on track and exercising again...had not done that in about 6 months...thank god my band has kept me from going ballooning back up to plus sizes even tho I have not exercised in 6 months and eat sweet every day....I guess this is me coming clean with myself and getting back on track! By the way you have done an amazing job with your weight loss and look great. Keep on keeping on!

Howdy,
my surgeon didn't set a goal weight because he wasn't able to complete the surgery that I went in to get which was the DS. He told me that his guesstimate was that I would lose about 80lbs with the VSG which would put me at around 200 lbs. He was right on target. He indicated that after a year, if I wasn't satisfied then he could then finish the surgery to add malabsorption to take off a few more lbs and stave re-gain. I do know that I will be needing to have a hernia repaired and figure that I will lose more due to that anyway. Thus far I haven't gained and recently made adjustments to lose the last 30 lbs that I would like to lose by May. I lost 2 lbs this week.

Unless I begin to regain fiercely I will not have another revision, I really do not know how that will pan out because my injection for MS and steroids have caused me to blow up before and I am currently on the on the MS injection tritation having one more dose to go before it maxes out, so I will know in the next month if it bites me in the butt....if it does then DS here I come with the hernia repair because the malabsorption would do the trick to at least keep me from gaining back to 283. Currently at 206 I feel MUCH better, have more energy, and other health issues such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and onset diabetes have been resolved so I have no complaints.

I'm 6'3 and my dr. set my goal at 180 and I couldn't even imagine it because the last time I weighed any where close to that I was in middle school and 6'1 and was 185. When I went in for my 18 month appt. I was 178 lbs. and he told me that he thinks I should be at 190. I have visible bones right now. I'll be going in for my 2 yr this month and I'm down to 167 and I look a little thin for 6'3. I think I wear my clothes too big for me because I hate to try on clothes. I just grab a 12 tall and wear it baggy and all. I did try on a size 8 skirt and dress and they fit but I wouldn't buy them because my dr. wants me to gain weight. I have other health issues though.

*Right now my profile is not open to anyone but most of y'all know what I look like.

160-as per my physician
140-as per my gyn
180-as per Pinkcurves. I was here and very happy! This is what I am re-aiming for but I might as well go for 160 as when we go up and down (some of us) I won't be over too much.

Tis better to be dis-liked than to be loved by them cuz your always on their mind.
