What do I need to buy to get ready for surgery???
Next week I turn in everyting to my insurance company and wait for my final approval! I am extra excited about that! I just need to know the list of things I should buy to prepare myself for surgery and life after surgery. I'm sure there is a list that I can look at, but I would rather hear it from the pros...you guys! I know I will need things like protein shakes and the supplements I will need (what do you take?) Thanks for any advice....

You don't need much. Stocking up in advance is a waste since you will not know what agrees with you post op. Once you get your post op eating plan, buy a minimum of what will get you through until you are ok to drive and shop. Time varies by person. I shopped the next day and drove the second day. Some people need a couple of weeks.
You don't need much in hospital. Chapstick, non skid slippers, a strapless bra if you wear one to bed will come on and off without interfeering with the iv, an ipod, books, magazines. Toiletries & slipper socks are usually supplied. Unless your own night gown gown opens at the shoulders for the iv, wear the hospital gowns.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
Hospital
- Wear something loose fitting to and from the hospital
- Slip on shoes
- Hair stuff - hospital provides other toiletries
I was too tired to care about reading magazines and that kind of stuff. Didn't even watch that much TV. As soon as I was able to get up, I started walking laps around the nurses' station.
Home
- Get a list of recommended supplements from your surgeon
- Small Tupperware containers and Ziplock bags for leftovers
Like another poster said - don't stock up on a lot of any one thing. You are going to be amazed at just how LITTLE you are going to be able to eat. Also, taste buds tend to change post op. Some things you used to like, you won't care for anymore.
That being said, some pouch-friendly things you might want to have in your pantry are things like broth, chili, canned meat and fish and soft non-starchy vegetables. Frozen meatballs make a quick meal. Sugar free beverages, pudding, popsicles are OK.
