Started working out....and GAINED 3 pounds - WTH???

Worked out for the first time in a while and GAINED 3 pounds the next day.  How in THE HELL did that happen???

That is definitely water weight no one gains weight that fast.  If you had been working out for a  while and gain weight I would say muscle weighs more than fat so the scale may go up.

When you first start working out you are doing some damage to your muscles.  The tear down and rebuild is what helps you to get stronger.  What you are most likely seeing is the inflammation from the tear down.  Make sure that you are drinking plenty of water and keep up with your protein as this will aid in the rebuild process.  After a while your body will get used to the new routine and it wont be so noticeable.  Good luck!

ditto to what the others said. 

i've been back weight training for two months - have gained 5-7lbs - but can wear pants I couldn't pray into before.   go figure!

It's definitely muscle weight gain. 1lb of muscle may weigh more than 1lb of fat but the fat is ALOT bigger. Congratulations on working out!
