New to BAF; Topic Hair Loss

Hi everyone,

I apologize if this topic has been discussed earlier. I've been hearing about hair loss months after surgery and wondering does this happen to "everyone"? I currently am awaiting a date for surgery. Also, I'm sporting the "oh natual" look (mini fro). I'm not sure if I should continue to sport the mini fro or go back to the twists or even have my hair blown out.

Any answers/suggestions to this topic are much appreciated.

Hey Amy-
I had the same concern. My hair has just recently started shedding. Not much, but enough.  I'm trying to combat the problem with Biotin and a hair routine.  I wa**** 1 time/week, deep condition and stay away from heat! It does happen to quite a few people or so I've read.  I'm not sure if there is a sure fire way to prevent it completely, but I know that there are ways to perhaps slow it down. Wishing you all the best!

I had a lot of hair loss,  I have hair to my butt, but the scalp has bald spots.  I have to place my hair just right to hide the holes.

I didn't really find anything that would grow it back but I am trying a new product now that I think may be working.

Natural med length.  Thining but no bald spots.  The worst started atound four months out but at close to a year it is getting better.  Much less shedding and the short hairs I initially thougth was breakage is new growth.  Taking biotin and keeping protein high helped reduce the fall out.

I, too, am scared about thinning hair.  I have naturally very thin hair already. What is Biotin? I see it mentioned here 2x and have heard other mention it before. Thanks :o)

My hair is natural.  I wear it braided under a wig mostly.  I wash, deep condition and rebraid every 2 weeks.  I started taking biotin right along with my other vitamins the day after I was released from the hospital.   I have not experinced much hair loss at all.

Hi there,
Here's my suggestion to you is this (I wish someone would have suggested this to me):  Start taking your "hair" vitamins now, before surgery and continue to take them.  It may not prevent hair loss, but it might slow it down and it certainly can't hurt.  I take Biotin and Mega Vitamins for Hair.  Both can be found on this website (which also offers great deals!!): http://www.puritanspride.com
They offer deals like "Buy One Get One Free" or "Buy Two Get Three Free".  They also have good multi-vitamins, and their prices are reasonable.

I started taking Biotin and Mega Vitamins for Hair at about 5 months post-surgery and they seem to have greatly slowed the hair loss that I had.  I now have tons of new growth and my hair stylist has noticed a huge difference.

Good luck!
