THIS IS MY LAST POST
Dude - think a little further outside the box.
If someone shares a thread with you in it, and your pic is your avie, whoever sees it on FB or wherever might recognize you then come to OH and read your profile and all your ****
Get it now?
SOME of us don't want folk outside of OH having direct and easy pointed access to track us back here. For me - my real name is on my FB, I never use it here. I do not ever want the two to be linked - I don't share all of my WLS details with the FB folk, and I don't share all my FB **** with yall.

Ok, i see now where some are coming from. For me it's not a big issue, because anything I would say on here, i'd say to someone on facebook if we discussing the same topic.
But I can see how others may be concerned.
Regardless, i think it's hard to stop others from posting what they want on their facebook page. Even if the share link was removed from OH, if someone wanted to post a link directly to an OH discussion on facebook, they still could by just using the actual link to the discussion. External links (to non facebook sites) get posted all the time on facebook, it's the nature of the beast and part of the peer-to-peer social networking madness out there right now. If it hasn't been a big issue before, i dont really think it will be a major one now. Just my take on the situation.

and AGAIN - think outside the box.
Of course you can copy and paste a URL anywhere you want - but to put the button for clickable ease takes it to a whole new level. Those who might not have gone to the trouble of the URL paste will easily click the share button and whammo! With the increased exposure, more folk will go 'I wonder what that OH site is all about?' and come a readin........
Fine for you to be the same here and there - lots of others, including me, are not. The things I have said and discussed here are personal and very detailed at times - not what I want to share with every single person I could possibly know.
I like to have some degree of control about the information I allow others to have about me.

Thank You MM for breaking that **** down for him, just because some people don't give a **** whether their "private" forum posts go public or not doesn't mean we want easy access by the click of a button for any and everyone to see our "FAT" woes.

I used this analogy before.
Alchoholics go to AA. It is a public space. Anyone can participate and then spread their pivate issues to the world. However, this is a public space where there is confidence that those present overwhelmingly respect the personal nature of the information shared. As a result participants feel they can be totally honest in their sharing which benefits everyone.
Now televise those meeting even on your local cable access. How would you expect that to play out. OH is a similar public enviornment where confidences are shared. Now those confidences are easily broadcasted.
We take a risk when we post. The share button has increased the risk of our personal information being exploited by parties with no interest in wl support.

All good things must come to an end.
No one wants their 'business' spread all over the friggin internet but in an effort to gain more readers OH has obviously decided to join the other mindless internet services that use facebook, twitter, etc... to increase their revenue of magazine sales.
Take a look at my latest avatar again. See those symbols intruding upon the standard masonic symbol? Very ironic yes, but to me it's what everyone seems to be doing these days. Not cool by my standards, but hey... whatcha gwine do, y'kno'?
Unless someone has the time and expertise to create a computerized forum of their own that would not allow "sharing" then we either go with this one or wait until something better comes along. Don't hold your breath though! Some of our future "best 'n brightest" still don't even own computers to begin the work.

As I said earlier, I didn't understand the hoopla, and that's why i posed the question. It seems like yall feel a certain way about this, but i just wanted to get some insight to yall point of view.....no harm no foul.
That being said, i never view what i post on this site or any site as "confidential". It's the internet, info can be found one way or another. Soi personally woudn't feel comfortable posting something about myself that i wouldn't feel comfortable telling people i know in person, especially if there is an avatar right next to the post with my face on it, lol. So i guess since that's the way i approach my posting, then it wasn't a big deal to me. But I see now how it can be a big deal to others. To each their own.
