My First Training Session

Oh....lawd have mercy!!! I was doing it ALL Wrong. I am so glad I hooked up with a professional trainer. While the session last night was definitely MORE difficult...I now get a better idea of how to properly use the equipment and get a more productive work out. I will see him every two weeks to start and then back off to once a month once my program is solidly in place.

I feel good about it.  While he says that he is no professional dietitian...he thinks that my high protein diet might work against me. Says that I definitely need more complex carbs in it...so that I have the energy to burn for the workouts.

I told him that I switch between high protein and a more balanced diet based on my needs but that I will definitely be more mindful of complex carbs on the days I do the weight/cardio combo.

Overall, I feel good about it so far.

I take advantage of the trainers whenever I need to.  One on one sessions is not in my budget but using them for guidance is included for members.  I grab one when I want advice on equipment or muscloe groups.  They always show me a better way.

As for diet, I have yet to find one that does not tell me to eat more complex carbs.  You know your own body and how you best loose.  Don't hesitate to hold back on the carbs if his way is less effective than your current diet.

Thanks MSW....I really do not have the money in the budget either (Its $42 an hour) but I figure I will invest a couple of hundred dollars just to make sure I don't injure myself....save me more pain, time and headache down the road. Plus...he's very handsome and gives me something to look at so that I am not focusing on the torture.

You are right..I am going to just following the plan that works for me. I am not adding pasta back into my diet ever...but I will be adding in a baked potatoe with Molly McButter ever now and then. I miss them.

Good!!!!  I am a strong advocate of professional trainers - getting good basic knowledge is key and using proper form when working out is critical.

Stick with it - sounds like you have a good trainer!

Yes, he's seems to be very knowledgeable.  I had called two women trainers before Christmas break AND neither got back to me. When I called this guy...he got back to me right away. The people at the center say that he's the best...so I am gonna keep him.

BTW: Went to the Zeta's Founder's Day Celebration last night at the Hilton....your Sorors threw down in Hbg. I had the best time and burnt some dayum calories to boot.

you better than me - I can't work out with a dude trainer.  Something about looking at his nuts when spotting me on the bench press just don't work for me....... LOL!!!

I'm not a Zeta - I am SGRho.  You got the blue part right - lol

I had many trainers, every one of them told me to eat more carbs even when I was eating 80 carbs a day I increased it to 130, muscle growth was stagnant.    I looked around the gym and paid attention to long time women members like myself, their bodies look the same as they did last year so did mine, very little muscle growth.  I stopped going.

Make sure you communicate with your trainer exactly what it is you want,  cause every single one of them think that women don't want muscle that they just want to be skinny.

I have had a slew of awful trainers in the past.  I have had everything from straight stupid kids who were more impressed with my shoes than getting me trained to someone who openly made EXTREMELY blunt sexual comments to me (and had the face of a garbage can lid and the breath to match)!!!  So, I gave up on them for awhile...until I joined my new gym.  OH. MY. GOD.  I love my trainer!!!!  He is the director of the facility and of the fitness team and he's amazing.  Very knowledgeable and professional and patient.  He helped me sooo much in just a short time working with him.  I can't wait until my back is healed and I can get back to working out.  You seem to be right on track sweetie and I have no doubt you are going to hit your goal girl!!!

Love is all there is, ever was or ever will be...
