I have noticed a loss of hair that started about two weeks ago.  I have a perm and don't want to perm it now due the loss.  I am looking for information about how long it last, what can I do about it, why it is happening and when can I perm again.  Right now I am going to having my hair pressed due the amount of new growth. Answers to any and all of the above.  HELP!

I personally did not have hair loss.  Are you taking your vitamins is the only think I can think of.  Good luck.

I started taking Biotin a couple of months before my surgery and I continue to take it now.  I also didn't perm my hair prior to surgery and I still haven't.  I decided to wear a weave.  So my hair is braided and I wash and condition it weekly.  My beautician was familiar with WLS and recommended I do this.  So far, I haven't lost any hair.  Be careful with heat and chemicals because it damages our hair.  I hope this helps.

Have your stylist to take a look at your hair for a thorough assessment. Discuss your surgery and vitamin intake with her as well.

There are numerous reasons as to why your hair is in failing health.  Typical hair loss starts at three months post-op and continues for approximately three months. Studies have indicated that anesthesia, lack of protein and starvation are some of the underlying factors.

I did experience hair loss. I supplemented with Biotin and always kept my protein at 100+ grams per day...still didn't help. I stopped relaxing my hair and kept it styled in straw sets. My stylist did suggest vitamin E oil for my hairline and I'm finally seeing the results.

Congrats on your weight loss (77lbs..yeah!!!) and success!

I thought I had beat the hair loss bandit.  I guess they were right about three months.  My girlfriend who had WLS is a beautician and she is having hair loss - so you know the rest of us are in trouble. She told me she is going to get it cut short next week.

I did a regular perm for a shorter time one month out so that I would not put chemicals in during the 3 month window.  No perm since.  In the meantime I am wearing it pulled back or setting with much smaller curlers. Not perming your hair also adds to a thicker fuller look at the root. I use QP and protein jell.  I also use B&B which I found worked wonders when a perm took out my hair three years ago.  There is one thing that gives me hope... it grows back!  PS

curious, should we not be putting perm in our hair for 3 months prior or 3 months after the procedure?

This information about perms three months before or after WLS is news to me.

My hair is natural and I have just started to notice my hair is shedding.  I have taken biotin for years now ~ so I guess it really doesn't matter, it still sheds.  I'm not too concerned about the hairloss as no one knows, but me.  My hair still appears to be very thick.

The saving grace is that it will grow back.
