Ok, so i logged on today and had a msg from someone named Nicole (something like that) she said she read my stuff and does not know why i want to have the band.  She said i should have the ds because i will not lose the 170lbs i want to with the band.  WTH is up with that?  I could not even reply back to her, it did not give me the option to.  First she says she means no harm but how can someone have the nerve to suggest to me another type of wls? If she had read my posts then she would know I have debated my decision.  Further more, i have read and seen plenty of band people who have lost over 150lbs.  It's a toll to help me, it's not gonna melt the fat away and restructure my body.

Anyway i'm just a bit pissed off i even got a msg like that and i find it weird that it does not give me the option to reply back to her!

Thanks for the vent!

Shawnm,

Consider that response a blessing compared to the many MSGs that people have received. I dont' believe that she mean't any harm probably giving you her opinion or facts but the point of the matter is You know what You want and were all unique. So, our bodies respond differently to WLS surgery. Good Luck!

Well, based on the tone of her MSG you know whether or not she mean't harm and you did the right thing you blocked her.

I debated on replying to this post but I am just going to go for it. I hope you receive my message in the spirit it is intended. First, there are people on this site who just want to push their surgery type, I have experienced it as well. Second, as someone who started out with the lap-band and revised (for many reasons) to a different surgery I feel qualified to say this. I cannot and will not tell you what type of surgery you should have but I would encourage you to research as much as possible. I can tell you  that there are lots of people who are successful lap-banders. There are lots who are not successful. The same could be said for other surgery types. I had about 170lbs to lose and initially was very successful with the lap-band, that is until I started having complications. I made my decision for various reasons like I am sure you did but in hindsight, I wish I had made a different decision. That is just me though. All in all, once you have decided (and it sounds like you have) don't worry about what others think. Just make sure you are making the right decision for you.

There is a little band of DisSatisied small minded sad individuals who attack people on various forums and by pm.  They claim to speak in "defense" of the much maligned ds; or, to speak in the interest of saving you from your chosen surgery.

Unfortunately, because of these idiots, some people think being an asshole goes hand in hand with having the ds.  Not so.  Their need to share their dis satisaction with themselves is their own personal lunacy.

Report all harrassment to the moderators.  Be it by pm or in postings.  That is the way we keep these boards as the support network they are intended to be.

Thanks for the kind words it's funny i got another msg from someone else, they began apologizing for nocolle and i looked and saw i could not reply to them. i did not even finishing reading, i just blocked it rightaway and deleted it.

So now in the main forum all these ds people are on the attack telling me how grateful i should be to this person blah, blah, blah, It's funny how they "band" together to attack people, never less, i am done with all of them, it's none of there business what wls i have and yet they continue to tell me how poorly i will do with the band.

I'm glad you've held your ground and refused to doubt your decision.  You will do well with your band.

Attacks are their mode of operation.  There were other attacks on bandsters last week.  Savage is their style.  Out right lies about the band.  This despite the fact that two of our own BAF bandsters are this issue of OH mag's featured success stories.   It would not surprise me if they are resorting to pm through troll accounts.  Especially if other posters are lodging complaints.

Unfortunately, some OH'ers believe that they represent the ds community.  Not at all true.  They are just miserable pathetic individuals dis satisfied with their own existence.  Cheers to you for not letting them kill your joy.

Chew up the hay and spit out the sticks.... take what you need and throw the rest away LOL... Folk will push there opinions on you, but get info for yourself.. All sides success, revisions, and every story in between (that's what I did and I still chose the band LOL) and sometimes (and this is almost 3 years out and 100lbs down) feel like I should have chosen something different.. I have my days LOL.. Whatever... and however I would never try to sway someone one way or the other...
