I recently made the choice to change from RNY to Lapband. To make a long story short, my doctor of choice no longer performs RNY. I've held various consultations with others who still do but could never match the comfort or trust level held for my initial doctor. I chose to go with Lapband and to stick with the original dr. For anyone here please send your opinions (good or bad) on your experiences with Lapband.

I'm looking to go from 234 to 140'ish. The surgeon thinks that's reasonable for lapband. If I wanted to lose more he's suggesting RNY or DS. Neither of which he does. Of the last two surgeons one just seemed bothered by my questions the other...still no comment about him. I just chose to change and stay with the one I trusted.

Hmmmm - ok.  I wish you the best of luck!  I know how important it is to trust your doc.  Did he say why he wasn't doing RNY anymore?

Lapband and sleeve are his most commonly requested.

I haven't had surgery yet so I can't offer any words of experience but why not the sleeve if he does that as well?  I am planning to have the sleeve, I had already decided that before going to see the surgeon then when I saw him he told me that he would not have recommended the RNY for me anyway.  Did your dr.say why he doesn't do RNY's anymore?

All I'll say is when I go to my meeting you can always tell who had a RNY and who had Lapband.    I'm just saying

But there are plenty of people on the board who lost a ton of weight with lapband.

If you absolutely love your Dr. IMO I would get the sleeve. No foreign device, full fuctioning stomach less risk of relux and vomiting. Also the grehlin hormone(controls hunger) is with the strecthy part of the stomach which is taken out during surgery.  JMO tho. Best wishes in whatever you choose doll.
Also check the  revisions board to see what people are revising the most, HTH
5' 7 3/4 I claim 5'8 SW/CW/GW 267/144/160 <---Dr's goal. My goal was 165lbs. Trying to build muscle. So, unsure what weight I'll be at  once I meet my fitness goals.

Not trying to influence your decision at all but

please don't base what's best for YOU on what

expertise your doctor decides to concentrate his

efforts on.  I would say make your decision based

on how much weight you have to lose and what you

really feel is right for you.  Whateverf you decide .... good

success and God's blessings to you!!!!

I chose lapband over RNY for my own personal reasons. It is total commitment!! If you are not going to be committed then You may have to keep searching for a doctor you can trust. However, if you are ready to be fully committed then I say go for it. MY bestfriend and I both chose lapband and though we just had surgery on 9/23/09 we are both doing very well. You dont lose as fast as Rny'ers but with dedication it will come off. Wish you the best of luck. Follow your dr.'s requirements and suggestions and you will do wonderfully. If you look at my pics from this summer and now you can see that the band has helped my swollen butt alot.. I still have a long way to go till my goal but I am right on track by what my dr states. Good luck to you.
I am so Grateful unto God and yes, I will continue Praising Him in Advance!
