We recently moved from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on one of our computers. At first it appeared that Microsoft did away with Vista's Parental Controls, but after doing some digging we found that Microsoft has opted to go with a new set of parental controls called "Family Safety". The big plus, though, is that the filter also supports Windows XP which is what most families are still running.

With Family Safety, you decide how your kids experience the Internet. Limit searches, monitor and block or allow websites, and decide who your kids can communicate with in Windows Live Spaces, Messenger, or Hotmail.*
Windows Live Essentials require the following:
Operating system: Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (32-bit edition only), Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit editions), Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit editions), or Windows Server 2008.
Note
