Do I really want this surgery??
I agree with everybody. It's not easy but I think it's well worth it. My surgery went smoothly (Thank You Jesus) physically , but mentally it's kicking my tail. After surgery I didn't think I needed to work out that much just a little here a little there. Nope not the case you want to be healthy with or without surgery you gotta get your Jane Fonda on. Some people can't tolerate sweets or starches or extremely fatty foods...I can Pouchie is like an iron tank so I have to rely on my own self control to have treats in moderation and to make healthy choices and that's forever. Or I'll be back to where I started. It's funny how resistant we can be to change like being healthy is a bad thing. I had surgery 8/25/09 including pre-op diet I have lost a total of 82 pounds I would have never have gotten my crap together to do this on my own. I wish you and hubby the best possible success on your journey and hope you come to a decision that you're comfortable with. It hasn't been easy but i'd do it again in a heart beat! HTH
-Excercising for an hour EVERYDAY
Good Idea for anyone, WLS or not
-No sweets for the rest of my life
Not true, but good idea for anyone to limit sweets WLS or not
-Barely any starches
Ideal for anyone WLS or not
-No babies for 2 years (I have heard only 1 year several times)
Trust me, that 2 years is going to FLY by and if you do what you're supposed to do you will be "skinny" by then which will make it A)easier to conceive, B)healthier pregnancy. Second, kids require tons of energy that you probably don't currently have. Hell I can't imagine having kids at my heaviest (now I'm not sure I want any) That **** was tiring, I didn't like dealing with folks kids for too long, but full time at 400lbs? Child please.
Personally I don't regret my decision and I wouldn't say it's "hard" per se. The HARDEST thing is getting out of your own damn way and getting with the program. At that point it is a bit involved and time consuming, but absolutely worth it.

Well my friend here is my story and I hope it helps a bit. In June of 2008 my daughter's friend showed off her new look. My daughter was so excited and inquired about her weight loss. She then told me about WLS and said mom we should really do this. My daughter is always getting me into some kind of craziness. She continued to pursue this idea and found out that our insurance would cover it. So we went to the seminar and she was all set on getting the gastric by-pass I was thinking more the lap band. All the time I was thinking how am I going to give up pound cake and krispy kreme donuts. At the time we had Tri-care standard and we were approved and that meant coming up with a large sum of money for our part. Then I spoke with our insurance rep and she recommended we switch to Tri-Care Prime and that meant our co-pay would be a total of 33.00 each. That was a blessing. So we got our date for Sept. 10, 2008. The night before surgery I was on 80 units of Lantus and Nova log insulin three times a day, also oral meds for my diabetes as well. I also was taking three blood pressure meds as well. My daughter and I had surgery the same day and shared a hospital room. She went first and right up until the wheeled me in I had second thoughts. My weight was 285 lbs and was wearing sizes 24-26. The night before surgery was the last time I used insulin or oral meds for my diabetes. I now take two meds for my blood pressure. Today I weigh 142 lbs and wear size 6 and can get into some 4. My daughter weigh 312 lbs and was wearing 28-30. Today weighs 212 and wears a size 12 and she is still losing weight. I recently had a huge mass removed from my chest the size of a cantaloupe and weigh 1 1/2 pounds. The opened me up like open heart surgery to remove the mass. I have a scar across my throat and down to my belly button. I was in in ICU for 5 days, critical care 4 days, I required four units of blood. My reason for sharing this is I know for a fact if I had not lost the weight and been healthy I would probably died from this pass surgery. Changing my lifestyle saved my life. I hope this helps you with making a decsion. I do not miss the donuts and I have had a small piece of pound cake. The change in my eating habits have not been that difficult for me. I still see myself as a work in progress and I'm not there yet. My next hurdle on this journey is plastic surgery to remove the excess skin, get me some boobs, and a flat tummy. LOL Good luck and as I always say, pray about it and then be lead my your answers from God.
Wow thanks for that! I know my doubts are not uncommon for people to have. But I have only heard positive things about the outcome of the surgery. I only have 36 days left to turn in all my paperwork. I just can't wait! I do want to be healthy, and I want to have a healthy pregnancy. So I know I am doing the right thing. I am just nervous. But so happy that I have this opportunity! Thanks again!
