OT- Callilng all BAF Managers or folks that conduct interviews.
I was interviewing a women with an amazing resume who was actively experiencing auditory hallucinations during the interview. I was the only person on the panel who could not hold it together I had to excuse myself to laugh! Wish you luck on your interviews.
--I look for people who have done their homework I always ask if the candidate looked at our website and I ask them an open ended question about the site.
---I look for people that want to work for us (even if it's just for the moment) not just looking for a job.
-Honesty is a big plus I don't want to feel like the candidate is reading a script or telling me what I want to hear so I always ask open ended questions...what is your opinion about _____? Give me examples of_________ Very few yes/no questions.
--Listen carefully to responses don't let the glossy cover fool you. Some of the worst employees are professional interviewees!
-I was looking for someone to fill a position that usually takes a person about two years to feel really comfortable carrying out the job independently. When I asked about longevity the candidate said he would realistically commit 3-4 years to the agency. Although I was looking for a person who would come aboard and feel they were making good money and stay till they died :). I hired the guy who was honest about a short term commitment he has been here 4 years and now says he will only leave if I drag him out. (it was more than his honesty, but that sealed the deal)
-NO SLANG I was interviewing someone for a professional position that became too relaxed because she saw a couple of people her complexion. She appeared to be a good candidate but the panel kept asking questions I think we all felt something. Well toward the end of interview she answered a question (well I might add) and leaned towards me and said "cause that's how I roll". The interview panel all looked at me and our personnel officer concluded the interview because she knew I would not overlook the comment. I was in shock. The funny thing is she said it in her proper talking meeting voice LOL
Good Luck
