Dayum!

You go hard in the paint, Yo.  Straight up asking SAT-type questions on your interviews.  LOL!

The ability to articulate well is imperative for me.  I’m polished and on point, so I have to make sure my people can hold it down like I can. I am known for my ability to phrase things quickly and in a way that keeps the clients’ trust and keeps the company from looking like an idiot.

Hey Dbl Aye!!

What type of questions would you suggest? Questions about the company?

1: What types of training programs do you offer?

Employers value workers who keep up with the latest industry trends and developments. By asking this question, you can emphasize your dedication to expanding your skill set. If applicable, it never hurts to mention several specific proficiencies you've gained through previous professional-development programs or continuing education courses you've taken.

2: Will I primarily be working independently or as part of a team?

Possessing strong interpersonal skills is critical for most positions today. That said, being self-directed also is necessary at times. Depending on how the employer responds to this question, be ready to offer an anecdote from your professional life that highlights your ability to collaborate effectively or work autonomously.

3: Can you tell me what my average day would be like?

This question can help you gather information that allows you to better evaluate your interest in the job. You might learn about aspects of the job that don't appeal to you, such as the expectation that workers stay at the office until late evening, or be reassured that the opportunity is right.

4: What do you enjoy most about working here?

This gives the interviewer a chance to sell you on the company. Pay close attention to how quickly and passionately this question is answered. Happy employees who love their jobs don't have to struggle to come up with reasons why they enjoy their work. A short, ho-hum response may speak volumes.

Thanks!! I'm writing these down now!

My company has hired an agency to come in and help us with our resumes and offer tips but that's so generic so I thought I would get a jump start!

Thanks again!

Thanks guys! You gave a lot of helpful tips. To be honest I would've researched the company but..........I really need to do my homework since it seemed to impress all of you guys.

Now...........MM.............the "sister girl" comment irritates me too........why do folks think that's OK? Does that really work on folks?

Ugh......I had a friend come to an interview with some bright red braids to the back and in the interview talking about, "yeah..........you got a nice office I wanna be like you". Then when I continued to conduct the interview professionally.........she asked me if I was serious.

Girl bye...........get out of here...............are you serious about working?

I just recently hired my FIRST Black person since I have been at this job - and just fired one I inherited.  That 'help a sista out' thing doesn't play well with me - this is a JOB we all have responsiblities to KEEP it - do your part, and I'll do mine.  don't look for special consideration because we are both Black......

What infuriates me is when they talk correctly with the HR mgr (white) then come to me all 'Gurl - what's up?'

Not a damn thing!  Including your chances of getting hired!  LOL

I can totally relate but our "cousins" just don't get it.

I'm trying to get my mind wrapped around this whole process. Right now, I'm weighing my options..........collect unemployment for a while since I'm graduating in May or hitting the pavement here in Michigan will probably be a little rough. Nevertheless, I'll be using my networking skills.

I actually waited around for severance because I knew my company would eventually lose our biggest client ~ Chrysler. They found a way around paying out severance...........it's called the "WARN ACT".

Oh yea - there's ways around it.  I never wait when I see the snowball coming down the hill.....

The last 3 places I worked laid off some or all of my former co-workers - I jump ship WAY ahead of time! The folk I work with now say they have the 'run when u see me running' mentality with me - if I leave, THEY leavin!  no questions asked!  lol

In ten years I've been through a good 8 rounds of layoffs. My whole department with the exception of ten of us were laid off 2 years ago and their work sent overseas to India. I love the "ad" agency amenities. lol :) Actually, I've just had peace about staying and now I have that same peace. I'm preparing for whatever comes but I have faith that it will all work out. Some of my co-workers are going crazy and about to lose their mind so they actually think I'm crazy because I'm calm.

Thanks for all of your advice; I really do appreciate it.
