X-Mas Food
I am so sad today. I helped my mom cook turkey, ham, greens, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked mac & cheese, chicken & dumplings, 2 sweet potato pies, a german chocolate and a carrot cake. I ate a few bites and then became very full and felt like I overate. I ate slowly but now I feel nauseous and heavy. I haven't been able to eat for a about a week without it coming back up. I take small bites and chew very well so I don't know what I am doing wrong. My doctor told me that even though I am not fully 6 weeks out yet, I could eat things that are chopped and grinded. WHEN WIL I BE ABLE TO EAT???
When you can eat will depend on your new digestive track. This is a tough time of year to be an early post op. Stick to the protocol you've been given and allow yourself to heal. The better you heal the sooner you'll be eating solid foods. Its tempting, but please don't ru****
Feeling too full is not unusual. Weigh and measure your food and keep to two ounces or so at a time, total meal. You'll learn your limits that way without having to suffer overstuffing your pouch. As uncomfrtable as it is, restriction is what you want.
Enjoy the other aspects of Christmas. Engage in good conversation rather than focusing on food. This is your critical "honeymoon period". Make the most of it by de-emphasizing food for anything but nutrition. You'll loose the fat, learn to eat in moderation, and have a long healthy life to enjoy these foods moderatly in the future.
Merry Christmas and welcome to the looser's bench.

6 weeks out and eating a few bites of : "turkey, ham, greens, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, baked mac & cheese, chicken & dumplings, 2 sweet potato pies, a german chocolate and a carrot cake"
Sound like you would be full and nauseous and heavy.
You're 6 weeks out.
I wouldn't have even helped cook that stuff cause it's to much temptation this early out.

With no support you have to be extra careful. You gotta try to keep yourself out of difficult situations this early out. Try your best to stay away from those foods as long as you can so you can make your goal.
Becca had her surgery on Thanksgiving and I promised her I would only eat what she could eat so I didn't eat anything good that year. That was so freaking hard, so I know what your going through. Food is just to dam good.

Hi RR......and Merry Christmas!
I'm a newbie too, just a few months out and am really just getting near eating those types of foods. Your pouch is very new and sensitive. I bet you were feeling like you overate and were full. Take advantage of this honeymoon phase we are in and let that tool work for you. Even if your doc gave you the ok to indulge, you know your body better, and it doesn't sound as if your pouch is ready for such heavy foods. Even in small ,slowly eaten portions. I drank my protein first today, and that filled me up and I ate about 1/2 cup of solid food come dinner time. And I prepared the full spread menu like you had and wasn't tempted to overeat at all.
I hope that you were able to put your focus on some other important events of the day like family time. Like at Thanksgiving and other gatherings, I've made the choice to not let the "meal" be the focal point of the occasion, but rather keep busy doing something else and interacting with family and friends.
Be encouraged, drink your protein and water and take your vits. You'll be ale to eat more soon enough.

Protein has been so hard to get down. It just comes up just as fast as I can get it down. I got the Special K ready mixed strawberry kind and I will try to stick to this but it's really hard right now. I still have to cook for the kids and my family doesn't believe in me not cooking just because I can't eat it. I complained and I was told I put myself in this situation because I "wanted" this surgury so I just needed to suffer because I knew better. Thanks for the responses.
