Siatic Nerve Pain, What do we take for the pain???? OH THE FREAKING PAIN LOL
When my sciatic nerve pain gets so bad that I can barely walk then I usely get a cortisone shot or an epidural in my back. My surgeon ok'd celebrex for my arthritis and degenertive disc disease, even though it's an nsaid. I take a pill called protonix for reflux and to protect me from ulcers because I have to take so many meds for other issues. A chiropracter helps too but it's expensive because they like to see you once or twice a week and insurance usually only covers a few visits a year. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Rita
epidural, isn't that for pregnant women? I do want a shot of cortisone or something. I can't believe how painful this crap is. I swear I cannot walk. I think it was sheeer determination that helped me finish the last few seconds of the run when it hit.
I am not getting caught up with a chiropracter again, they get on my dam nerve and don't help. I know my doc is gonna want me to start going to physical therapy again which also gets on my nerve.
I just want something to help me out of the pain so I can finish my running program.

Hey Lee ................My shots for the siatic were epidural like Rita said. And yes.....they hurt like heyl for about 30 seconds as the meds run down your legs,...........But then, oh the relief is almost instant! I've done it several times over the past years and it's just one of those procedures you have to endure with some pain to justify the relief! I hope you get some relief real soon!

No they do epidurals for lower back pain and sciatica also and it lasts for months. They don't usually do it in the office but the surgery center because an anesthsiologist has to do it because they have to put the medicine in the right space in your spine. You can't exercise for at least 24 hours and it usually takes 48 hrs before it takes affect. I've had several and the last one lasted a year and I have degenerative disc disease.

Lee, girl I know what you're going through. I have sciatica too. It comes every year around the Xmas holidays, (why I don't know) and my doc always prescribes Prednisone (and I add a couple of Advils, Excedrin, or Tylenol). It takes a little while to get rid of all the pain, but it works. Mine usually doesn't go completely away until the end of March!
