No! What's crazy about your post is that I usually find that most black business prices are out of control
See.....this might be one of the reasons that black businesses have problems...pricing. I am certain...as ...I see in other replies that this (pricing) can be attributed to various factors.
suppliers, supply and demand, greed etc... etc...
1.) Have you ever asked for a "Hook Up" at a black OR non-black owned business?
No, not as a rule. WHY? Because I had my own retail business & folks white & black were always asking for a discount! I will attempt to get the hookup at the show. I keep asking for employee discounts as I'm being checked out, got it once from Lane Bryant.
If yes, what was their response and the BEST "hook up" that you can ever recall receiving? If something has a minor flaw, I will definately go there.
2.) As a preop, did you ever try to get "Hook Ups" on food from friends or strangers? Yes I did, but it wasn't because I asked. A big butt & a smile will get you a long way. Didn't BellBivDevoe have a song about that?

well um er ah, I did ask for the employee discount at tuesday morning & the manager offered me a pt job instead so I could get the employee discount. Gurl, I took it & worked there for about a year. I CLEANED UP, YA HEAR ME!! I got scoops on stuff that was on clearance, was able to look for special codes that would ring down w/a extra discount because of the age of the item that was still on the floor & on top of that, a couple of times through the year, they gave an additional discount to employees. I bought several complete bed sets that went for $350-500 at Macys/Bloomingdales, with a sale we had on them plus my discount for about $25 each!
My siblings & mom also took advantage of my employee discount LOL

I HEAR YOU....I did the same thing when I worked at Sears. They would run these employee sales on the scratch and dents....heyl most of those appliances had not a thing wrong with them.
Those employee discounts are the bomb! I worked for US Air for about 2 years and I was always loving the discounts we would get on travel not to mention free airfare!

Employee discounts, gotta love them!!
Never did make it to being an airline employee...officially (worked for a travel company that took over AA's vacation dept), but worked in the toursim industry for years, before I started my own ta biz. Still love getting my hotel discounts, but nothing tastes better than free!
1) non discriminatory: on big ticket items my standard question is " is that the best you can do" if the answer's yes, i'm perfectly willing to walk away as the *thing* represents a want, not a need. i'm not a haggler either, you can do better or you can't, but now if you can then i'm that pain in the ass who'll ask why you didn't start out with the lower price. don't really do back and forths.
2) my 1st real job was as a burger king cashier, i know you're asking all in fun and stuff but on the real, it's not just a *hook up* to the person you're asking, there are cameras everywhere, you're asking them to literally risk their job over a 90 cent cheeseburger. same deal at the supermarket, bank, etc. the something you got for free is coming outta that 17 year old's pay if they're caught. it's not that deep.

You know what Marlo....that's why I threw that question in there....and addressed it specifically to us at our preop stage. Yes...I was asking in fun...but I also was asking it because I was thinking about the insanity of it all. I mean...getting all EXCITED that I got some dayum extra fries....I can laugh about it now...but it was far from funny then. This in itself give me a reality check when I think about it. Back then...I would not have processed it to the degree of thinking about how it might impact someone's job....I was just focused on getting my binge on. I will tell you....my binge eating had me doing some crazy shoit when it came to food.
I echo your concern that its really not cool...because someone could get fired.... Times are too hard to be without a job.

Oh...no I did not take it that way at all....That's why I love this board...the dialogue brings out so much...whether intended or not. I see several good points coming out of this thread. I am glad you posted. The direction I was going...might not have pulled in your concern. Thanks for that gurlfriend!
