I am getting a Wii system for my girls but you know that mommie will get a little time on it as well.  Has anyone on BAF tried any of the Wii Fitness or other workout games? Do you find them effective and worthwhile ? I am just trying to think of ways to ensure I can get my workout without letting the cold weather be a deterrent. I will be the first to admit...when it gets cold outside....I don't like to be out in it.  I search OH and found a few good links.  The Biggest Loser game seems interesting and it seems most are saying that you can get a good workout if you put the effort in. There are a few others that folks say are more intense. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey MD, I haven't tried any of those but I will tell you that the Wii is a workout all by itself.  It comes with Wii Sports (Bowling, Boxing, Golf and Tennis).

I love it and so does my daughter.  We also plan to get her Dance Revolution and Cheerleading since she's into that to get her moving.

I will definitely check out those other titles, I love Jillian Michaels...girl has no mercy!

Thanks Hershey Dream,

I did try the bowling over a friends house the other day so I am definitely sold on getting the game system for them. I was hesitant at first because it just seems like every year they were wanting a new system of some sort....Xbox, Nintendo SP...I can't even recall all of the names. This system looks like it can at least keep their interest for a few years...and I can benefit as well.

I think I am more excited than them! I am trying to hold out to get a good deal...like another bundle that they had at Sams. If it gets too close to xmas...I might just have to go with the basic and add the games and accessories...which I know will cost me.

Thanks for the feedback.

It is a great system and you do get a workout.  Also try Gold's Gym Cardio Workout; it had my arms hurting.

Thanks Lil_Ray78,

Hummmm Gold's Gym Cardio Workout sounds intimidating..... I read on one of the links that you can rent the games at Blockbuster....if thats the case I think I will give most of the games a trial run and see which ones I might get the most use.  I thank you for your input!

I just bought myself a Wii and the Wii Fit workout game with the balance board.  It's wrapped and under the Christmas tree right now so I haven't tried it out yet.  All the reviews that I read were very positive.  I just don't have the time or resources to go to the traditional gym so this is my substitute.

That sounds like a good plan! Right now I am paying almost $70 a month for our membership at the recreation center.  I have been going more regularly but when the winter weather kicks in....its a wrap...I already know it.  Thanks for your comment. LOL! I don't know if ours will make it under the tree.

I have a wii and several fitness games like Wii fit, Wii Fit Plus, Biggest Loser, Gillian's workout, etc.  They can give you a good workout.  There are various excersizes to do that I didn't even think would be possible with a video game, but it works.  You'll need the wii balance board for most of them.  I like weighing in and setting goals with the game as well.

Enjoy.

Thanks Jiffyj!

The balance board is used to weigh in, and it's necessary for most of the fit games, as it's the only way the game knows your doing some of the exceriszes.  Stepping on the board, balancing, etc.

Here is what nintendo.com says about the balance board :

What is the Wii Balance Board?

The Wii Balance Board is an innovative accessory created for the Wii™ Console, available exclusively with your purchase of Wii Fit™, that lets you get off of your couch and into the game. As you step onto the board, it interprets the movement of your feet and brings your motions to life, just like the Wii Remote™ controller. By sensing your weight and balance, an incredibly accurate control scheme is possible.

The Wii Balance Board provides endless ways to turn your Wii experience into a much more active one!
