Hi Everyone,
I just had the RNY on 11/13 and I have been having a hard time dealing with the sweet taste of anything, especially the protein shakes. I have been constantly throwing up while trying to force it down. I has not stayed down one time. I called my doc and they just said keep trying to force it. How long must I do this? I hate the taste of any sugar substitute and I am just having a super hard time. Please, any advice you can give me would be great.

I am 7 years post-op and did not drinking protein shakes until the last year (seriously). And the only reason I am able to stomach the taste is because I prepare them myself. There are several things you eat to get your protein besides drinking shakes:

eggs
mozarello sticks
tuna
chicken/turkey

Did your doctor not provide you with a sample menu?

Early out, my surgeon didn't push protein shakes....the most important thing was to stay hydrated and get moving.(every doc is different).

I know Unjury makes a Chicken Soup flavored protein (it's really good too) and then there are also unflavored ones that you could add to soups or mashed potatoes, etc (depending on what stage of eating you're on).

So sorry you're having a hard time, I hope you get through it.

Hello
And congrats on your surgery!!!
U can buy BeneProtien at most drug stores. It will run from $30 - $50 depending on the size you get. Its a tasteless/colorless powder u can add to food or drinks. It has about 12 grams of protein per scoop.
Hope this helps

U may also try ISO-PURE bottled drinks, its much like drinking crystal light, it has 40grams of protein per bottle, and goes down real easy, they have a variety of flavors. they r a little pricey at 3-4 bucks a bottle.......u can get them at almost any GNC, or online.

Thank you all for the insight. Next Monday I meet with the doc for my 2 week check up and to get the staples removed. At this appointment I should be moving on to Stage 2 pureed food. Then, I will be able to get more protein in from the foods I will be able to eat. I am drinking water all day and moving around. I guess I will do that until I see him next week. Pray for me as I will do the same for you all.

After surgery ISOPURE was too sweet for me also, so I will get a large glass of ice & pour the ISOPURE over it and keep filling the glass with ice.  It would take me a long time to drink them.  But, that helped with the sweet taste.  Hope this helps.
