BAF is dead, dead, dead this am.  I know I am probably the first one up this morning. Honestly, last night I did not sleep so well. We went to see Precious and that is the first time in a while that a MOVIE has stayed on my mind. No I am not going to give any spoilers...only my impression of the caliber of the acting. Ya'll....the only thing I can say is that every last person in the credits played THEIR parts and deserves some recognition!!! And don't anyone dare bootleg this movie....give the man his due. Lee Daniels is the bombshiggity! Give him his $9 and bootleg...2012....send me copy too while you at it....cause that looks good too.

First off...before the movie even got started....I had to turn off not only my cell phone but also these two yapping teenagers sitting behind us. Politely turned around and said...listen...we paid our money just like you....and  intend to get our money's worth...so would you kindly turn down the volume so that we can enjoy the movie...just like you.  Yeah...they smacked their gum and lips a few times after that....but for the most part they toned it down a notch. Just hope they learned a thing or two from the movie....SMDH!

At any rate....I have never held my hands on my head so much during a movie in anticipation of the next scene! Had me on the edge quite a few times!

Back to the acting:

Gabourey Sidibe: Wow! is all I can say.... This little girl appealed to the core of my caretaker personality in this role. Made me want to be her advocate, protector, mother, father. I just wanted to hold her and take the pain away....and yet...she was just playing a role....truly believable in this part. I could not separate myself from the movie....felt like I was living in the moment. I did not feel as if there was anybody else in the theater...let alone sitting next to me. I was absorbed by her character.

Monique: She made me feel like jumping through that screen and choking the living daylights outta her. Her acting gave me a visceral response.  She was totally believable as an abusive mfer. I don't want to take anything from her...because...yes...I believe she deserves an Oscar or at least a nod for the part....but I so hate...that it seems its the only way we can ever get credit is to show the world us represented at our lowest. Halle, Denzel....same thing...us at out lowest. However, I would never begrudge them their credit....act on bruthas and sistas!

Paula Patton: Ok...I am totally heterosexual....but...hummmm...Paula Patton....made me for a moment...just a moment...want to kiss a woman!!!  I know she's married to Robin Thicke...one of the current heart throbs and ahhh singing sensations (I don't get that part) ....but  I digress.... Let's just say....her character...again....was totally believable...as a dedicated and compassionate teacher.

Mariah Carey: The only thing that I can say about Mariah is that she totally made a believer outta me. Up until this point....that heffa could not act to save her life....just horrid...beyond horrid...However, she redeemed herself in this role. I did not see a glamorous singer...Nick Cannon's wife. I saw a burnout social worker.

Lenny Kravitz:  Hell....the whole time...I was thinking he was Lee Daniels in a cameo role. Shows you how much I know. I am not into Lenny Kravitz and I only saw Lee Daniels a few times in snap appearances. I was thinking....well...I would not expect nothing less than good acting from the director and producer....but when I realized it was Lenny Kravitz...Helen Willis's of the Jeffersons (Roxy Roker) son, Lisa Bonet's ex.... Ummmm....Hell....yeah...the man can act....probably better than he can sing.

My take on the value of the movie for main stream society:

While I so hate that there are so many little Precious Jones in this world. I do think that its time that the world sees it on some level. Maybe...it will help a teacher or someone these children encounter not to take their attitude or rebelliousness so personally. In most cases, its not about the teacher or their teaching style...its about whats going on inside these kids head. Maybe it will help one teacher or person these kids encounter...want to go a little further...when they are about to give up on them.

Ya'll I know  I'm not deep...and I don't profess to be. To be honest...the simpler things are kept in my head the better. I do know one thing..... something has got to change.

You know we have a problem...when you are in a movie...and one of your thoughts is...wonder if anyone (man or woman) is being turned on or living in an abuse scene themselves!  Its a festering wound not only in our community but society as a whole.... Sorry to get off on a tangent but it just sickens me.

Anywho....please go see the movie and support a great black film!!!!!

Good Morning MD...(you shortened the name, but you SURE can talk lol!)

I agree, I went to see the movie last night and I was hot!  I won't spoil it, but it was indeed a great movie.  All actors and actressess deserve recognition.

Have a great day!

Hey MSW! I am getting ready to head out myself. I did not read the book...but will go back now and do so. I am sure certain passages in the book are more empowering than those captured in the movie. Have a good one!

Monique did her thing..when she "insert spoiler here" over the stairs....

anyway I dont like Mariah Careh at all ...so I am not going to comment on her whole two scenes

Lenny and Paula did a good job as well

But I would say the book was so much(which is always the case for me ) I say this because I hate the half joke/seriousness of the movie

I am not saying that was the directers direction but that is how all the those young ass kids (and some grown fold ) was acting in the theatere..I was beyond upset

Whats up Vida!

I listened to a interview with Lee Daniels and he was saying that its the only way that he could see the movie being made was to interject some humor...that the book was just that intense. I have not read the book...but I think some of the the folks watching the movie...did not understand the concept of mental escape. They were probably looking at her as a side show....hence all the laughter and yes...inappropriate banter.  I think he used humor effectively....not just joking for joking sake...but to show survival skills.

Yes I understood his concept...I just do not like how people took it as a all around joke

No....I was not implying that you did not understand his concept....I don't think they (those acting a fool) did....or they would have taken it a little more serious. I mean...I did not find the so called funny parts funny.
