Hey Everyone.....

I'm a "newbie" to the site.  I need some advice on a dessert for Thanksgiving that me and parents can enjoy.  Yeah, I've been tasked to make Thanksgiving dinner this year and its scaring me to death.  I know how to cook food the "old-fashioned" way with lots a soul....if you wanna call it that.  But since this lifestyle change (9/15/2009. RNY), I'm not sure what I can make for dessert without dumping.  Any suggestions????

BTW, I havent had problems eating food.  I just stay away from sugars, rice and anything made with flour.

Thanks!!!!

Hi, Kandegram.

With you being a newbie, I'm hesitant to suggest ANY dessert for you.  How about trying SF jello with flavored cool whip on top or my version of cheesecake (cottage cheese, SF cherry jello powder, a dash of lime juice, and splenda all blended together)

I still cook the "old-fashioned" way, but I changed the ingredients to make them healthier.

Best wishes on your journey.

Being so recently post op I would stick to 100% sugar free and low fat right now.  I'm in my 'tween' stage and thats what I will be doing.  I can eat many things witout dumping and there is danger in that.

I substitute
-lower calorie Smart Balance Light instead of butter or margerine, approx 45cal per tbs and I use far less than I used to in all recipes.  You can get by on less than a whole stick of butter in most dishes.
-No sugar, splenda or splenda brown sugar blend ***warning, the brown sugar blend does have real brown sugar in it and a lot of calories just fewer than the real deal hughe dumping risk
-almond flour, flax meal, soy flour for making crumb type crusts
-try egg custards type deserts which have a lot of protein and can be kept low fat if you choose the right recipe
-ff cream cheese can substiture for regular in cheese cakes

I'm waiting for a set of wls friendly holiday recipies.  I'll post them when I receive it.  It includes a crustless pumpkin pie with about 50 calories to a normal person's full slice that I can't wait to try.
