Hi all,

My question is pretty simple;  Has anyone out there had BCBS of AL, and could you please tell me how your expiernce was? Is is hard to get approved through them, and could you give me pointers to make my approval process easier? I have been trying to do some research and I am having a hard time finding anything about it on this site. Thanks so much.....

I have BCBS of AL and i had no problems at all. i did have to complete the 6 month supervised diet, and i had to supply a 3 year weight history that for me was just  histry of doctors visits showing that i was obese for the last 3 yrs. but the approval came very quickly and i had no problems.

Thanks for you help! With your 6 month diet did you turn in everything on the sixth month or the seventh. Example I started mine in Aug, and I want to try to turn it in in Jan. Do you think I should wait until Feb or should I give Jan a try? And do you remember exactly how long it took for you to get approved? Thanks again!  :)

Sure no problem actually i started mine in August and turned it in in Feb and had surgery in march. it took 2 weeks for my approval. I was lucky enough to be in a great program and i didnt have to worry about any of the paper work. my surgery coordinator did everything for me. i had monthly visits with a Nut. and bi monthly visits with my doc as my 6 month suppervised diet. and it had to be a consecutive 6 months if at any time you skip a month you would have to start all over again. but again everything went really smoothly for me thank god! 2 almost 3 yrs later 147lbs lighter and plastics done LOL .

I had BCBS in Okla. took 3 mos.  Had to provide some backup paperwork like what diets i tried, etc. plus a letter from my primary dr. saying she was in agreement with me having the surgery.  I took all the tests required.....when i look back, it was pretty easy.  I did have a little bit of $$$ residue that I had to pay out of pocket.  BCBS didn't cover 100%, but they did cover most of the expenses.  Hope this helps

I had no problems at all. I did all necessary tests and my 6 months Dr's diet. Everything was documented by my Dr's offices (My PCP and my bariatric surgeon.) My coordinator said that everything is done "online" now and I found out about my approval within hours of her calllin me that morning saying that she had everything and was going to submit it to my insurance.
I believe as long as you cross your t's and dot your I's, BCBSAL is pretty easy to deal with.

Also, my process was from March thru October of this year. Everything went smoothly.
I believe that everything will be just fine. Good luck!
