What can I eat?? How am I to feel?
At 5 days out I was on puree: everything the consistence of stage one babyfood. For many others that will be liquids only at 5 days out. You should be having only what's on your plan.
How you feel varies from person to person. For me, just a little sore with sudden moves but other than that normal. Many people need their pain meds still.
If pain is extreme or you are even slightly uncertain call your surgeon or go to the emergency room, preferably where you had your procedure. Better to react to nothing than to wait out what could become a problem.
Sorry I could not be more specific but how you feel and nutrtion plans vary so widely. Congratulations on your surgery.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
Just wanted to let you know I am VERY sore still but I have decided to try to not take my pain meds but twice a day starting today. I am home with the kiddies so I am trying to be awake for them and I am tolerating the pain ok. I was really gassy...to the point where I wouldn't drink much becaue it hurt so bad. And walking just didnt get the kinks out until a half hour later. So I have started putting a heating pad on my tummy to calm the gas and it works wonderfully. If you dont have aheating pad fill a bottle with ho****er from the tap and place a towl between you and the bottle and try to move it around gently. Works for me anyway. I was able to double my increase in fluids. I am on full liquids for two weeks and can eat, protein shakes cottage cheese, jello, sf yogurt with no fluits in them, and popcicles. Protein sets like a log on my stomach right now so doc said it was ok to just focus on water intake for a while to keep me from getting dehydrated. My left side is worse then all my incisions and I heard thats normal as well. Any questions just send me a message I will be sure to respond soon as I get it.
Tanya
I was on clear liquids for the first 7 or 10 days. My main goal was to sip water and get my walk on.
I felt like crap and all I wanted to do was sleep.
Only take the pain meds if you must. If your surgeon prescribed Vicodin, it could make you constipated...not a good feeling
Good Luck!
Now my incisions are a different story. I have one that just wont stop oozing blood. I am doing well with my wound care, but that may be an issue at my post op visit. No signs of infection yet.
I havent visited mr scale yet due to all the swelling I had/have. I have swelling still in my arms, legs and stomach. An IV is no joke.
Ok thats all for now, back to the couch I go.
Oozing blood did you say? Not clear slightly pinkish fluid, but blood? If you have not called already please call your surgeon. I know nothing about anything regarding wound healing but that sounds worrisome to me.
Every couple of minutes take a small sip. That's how I was instructed and it still works for me when drinking is hard.
